Today, we are proud to some big changes at edwell: The heart of our work, educator wellbeing coaching, is now embedded at Reach University. Our same coaches will be using the same core practices to provide wellness support to undergraduate and graduate students at Reach Teachers College. So, edwell will take on a revised mission to “build the well of trained educators” as it seeks to expand access to educator preparation pathways. Under the leadership of a new executive director, Kristi Kirschner, PHR, edwell will partner with school districts and higher education institutions to design and launch apprenticeship programs and degrees for aspiring educators. Both of these changes mean that we’ll continue to support the mental health and wellbeing of educators – only now, we’ll be starting with them as they launch their careers. By embedding our wellbeing framework into teacher preparation pathways, we can ensure that educators have the necessary socio-emotional tools, habits, and mindsets to thrive in their roles and to effectively foster student emotional wellbeing, too. Healthy, whole, teachers can create positive learning environments, better student outcomes, and a stronger school community. The work is still just beginning, and with these big changes, I’m excited to re-imagine how we train the next generation of educators with social-emotional wellbeing at the forefront.

I’ve just finished reading The Story of Triple Wellbeing by Rachel Musson at ThoughtBox Education. It’s a thought-provoking and insightful exploration of how we can better respond to the growing challenges in education. (You can get download a free copy of it here: https://lnkd.in/e8HRTgwq) Rachel writes, “...the wellbeing of teachers is as essential to a healthy classroom as that of students - children’s wellbeing cannot be fully supported if the teachers are not also flourishing. If we wish to create healthy learning environments for our children, we have to have healthy teachers. This is a non-negotiable.” This statement particularly resonated with me; I couldn’t agree more. The Teacher Wellbeing Index report paints a stark picture of the experiences of education staff in the UK and serves as a reminder of the urgent need to prioritise the wellbeing of the education workforce. I believe one way schools can address this is through coaching. In my opinion, coaching is a powerful – and underused – tool for supporting teachers and school leaders with their wellbeing. It provides time and space to explore strategies to manage competing demands, reduce stress and develop greater resilience. Investing in coaching can create a healthier, more sustainable working environment for teachers, which in turn fosters a healthier learning environment for students. #TeacherWellbeing #Education #Coaching #Resilience #TripleWellbeing #ThoughtboxEducation #doubleloopcoaching

What Does Excelling in School Wellbeing Look Like? In #education, it’s clear that wellbeing is essential, but defining what it truly means – and how to measure success – can be challenging. With the increasing focus on wellbeing in #schools, it’s vital to align on a shared definition to evaluate progress effectively. I find the Australian Catholic University's definition particularly helpful: “Student wellbeing is a sustainable state of positive mood and attitude, resilience, and satisfaction with self, relationships, and experiences at school.” Likewise, the #NSWSchoolExcellenceFramework provides a useful benchmark, highlighting that schools excelling in wellbeing have #strategic, #whole-school approaches that allow students to connect, thrive, and learn. So, what does excelling in wellbeing actually look like in practice? Key characteristics include: *#Students feel cared for and have safe spaces to record emotions. *Emotional regulation is explicitly taught and reinforced. *A shared language and consistent processes for wellbeing are in place across the school. *Student #wellbeingdata is collected frequently, giving teachers the right information at the right time. *Teachers trust the data and can act on it with real-time, actionable insights. *Whole-school processes empower *studentvoice, and decisions are *data-driven and based on real needs. *Staff have clear induction processes to support these wellbeing initiatives from the start. Ultimately, excelling in wellbeing isn’t about aiming for 100% of students being happy all the time. It’s about creating systems and processes that allow schools to identify early indicators of student needs and ensure teachers are equipped with the tools and resources to meet those needs in real time.
