Reading the CIPD Spring 2024 labour market outlook, it validates some thoughts I’ve been having recently about retaining existing employees. We all know the old saying “it’s costs more to replace than to retain existing” however there are more and more companies unable to retain staff, and the costs of rehiring reduces the value they can deliver to their existing staff. Budgets… :( I’ve spent the last 10 years or so in multiple roles involved in employee engagement, leadership roles and change management roles. And it’s all the same, under invest and increase workload of existing employee’s. The report shows that 36% of businesses are increasing responsibilities of existing employees because they’re finding it hard to hire. 2024 is the year to invest, listen and connect with your employees, it’s a lot more than a pizza on a Friday or a one time yearly survey with no action or change afterwards. I’d love to hear what you’re doing to connect with your employees currently? And what you’re doing to retain good employees? Helen Marshall thanks for sharing this this morning, it was a great read!! https://lnkd.in/dZJi37mS

In the era of the #GreatResignation, understanding salary trends and talent management is crucial. Job hoppers have seen a pay increase when switching employers, but this trend is slowing due to rising unemployment. As an HR professional, balancing recruitment savings with the investment needed for #EmployeeRetention is key. Salary satisfaction is a major factor in retention. Many employees would reconsider leaving their job for a substantial salary increase. Therefore, HR leaders need to address #PayTransparency and #PayEquity. In addition to salary, a shift towards a #SkillsFirst approach in talent management is important. This approach focuses on identifying the skills needed for tasks and matching people with those skills. Building a skills-first organization requires creating or enhancing your skills taxonomy, managing this taxonomy, and actioning valuable skills insights. This approach leads to cultural and technological changes, with managers and leaders evolving from managing employees to orchestrating work and skills. Remember, a satisfied and well-matched workforce is a productive one. #TalentAcquisition #TalentManagement #WorkforcePlanning

I came across this article earlier this week from Personnel Today and as an HR professional, I am very aware that the HR environment is always changing. But seeing the extent of the changes made in 2023 even had me a little surprised. This article perfectly summarises some of the key things we saw in the last year; some changes that have been long overdue and other developments that still need more understanding and learning around them to be truly effective. I'd love to know what you think to some of the changes flagged in this article. Which are you excited by, and which are you apprehensive about? #HumanResources
