Don't chase engagement. Maintain consistency. https://lnkd.in/exBQYe-W Spikes of engagement are here one minute, gone the next; Disclaimer: chasing engagement isn't bad, just be prepared for an up-hill battle of uncertainty! However by consistently showing up, snapshotting your journey, via the posts you make, the events you enter, the milestones you hit, you're naturally going to raise your engagement over time. For example, followers. People are more likely to follow you, and keep following you, for your journey. Because they're invested. You have to give them reason (and substance) to want to BE and STAY invested. This is also, ultimately why people know me and follow me for PitchYaGame, vs my other relative dev stuff. Because I don't consistently put anything else out there. Case In Point #1 People finding results in viral posts. Great for spikes, but they work in a cumulative nature, coupled with the uncertainty of engagement is why a lot of people saw great results, but equally lots didn't. Partly also to do with how trends tail off over time. nb: sad fact - seeing viral posts without links in the main post; solid viral posts could equal huge boosts.. see: https://lnkd.in/ewHmwv6y It's a similar way to how #PitchYaGame works. Case In Point #2: But there-in is one of the big reasons why #PitchYaGame has been running for 4 years; Consistency. Consistent event, dates, announcements, follow up, website maintenance, email updates, tweaks, showcases etc. etc. Consistency is key. What is Consistency? Posting regular updates on whatever you're creating. (the key here being "work achieved" vs work created for sharing sake) Participating in things like #ScreenshotSaturday Entering #PitchYaGame (twice a year) - that's two major updates per year. And the rest. Consistency Tracks: Announcing alphas, betas, demos, announcing reveals, launch dates, trailer reveals... leading all the way up to pre-launch, launch and then, post launch stuff!! Consistency. Consistency will also likely get the industry taking more notice, get you more wishlists over time etc. Because people can follow and track consistency easier. OK, and adding in here, while it is important to maintain consistency, you need to do so healthily, taking breaks, etc. Better still if you're in a position to do so; get a social person to help. Case in Point #3: A real, poignant, thread by Hanna at Landfall.. on her own experiences, chasing engagement.. When you're up against an ever-changing beast and it's many forms, it's hard for it not to feel like you're fighting an impossible End Boss over and over. https://lnkd.in/eZrzkkbz Summary: The consistency I'm talking about is not daily, more spread out through the year. Another reason to have a solid plan laid out for all the key milestones you expect to hit and associated announcements / in-line events. One less thing to grapple with and more likely to feed back into the making it more sustainably consistent.
