🌍 Exciting News! 🌍 I’m honored to share that my insights were featured in a piece by Context Newsroom, a subsidiary of Reuters, following my interview with Md. Tahmid Zami earlier this month. The article discusses the significant investment needed for the fashion industry to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050—more than $600 billion for existing solutions and another $400 billion for innovation, according to the Apparel Impact Institute (Aii). At Aii, through the Fashion Climate Fund, we’ve worked with over 1,000 suppliers to idenitfy opportunities to improve energy and water efficiency, and in many cases begun those project via our Clean By Design program. We act as a "clearing house" to identify and scale decarbonization programs and technologies, focusing on 1,500 suppliers in the FEM with high energy usage. Our goal is to support locally grown decarbonization solutions, with input and buy-in from multiple stakeholders to ensure a unified approach. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this important topic! #SustainableFashion #ClimateAction #SupplyChain #GreenRegulations #Bangladesh #FashionIndustry #Leadership #Decarbonization

Today's consumers are more environmentally and socially conscious, demanding transparency, accountability, and ethical practices from fashion brands. Embracing sustainability is not only a moral imperative but also a strategic business decision to attract and retain environmentally conscious consumers.
With 2025 climate commitments looming, fashion is under pressure to clean. While “traceability” became somewhat of a buzzword in 2023, global #supplychains faced an onslaught of challenges, from cost increases to living wage protests in manufacturing hubs like Bangladesh and China, as well as extreme weather events. Plus, despite regulations, pressure from activist organisations and increased dialogue around #overproduction, major brands still refuse to disclose basic information like production volumes. Economic, geopolitical and #climate instabilities will continue to impact the global sourcing landscape in 2024. Within a brand’s control is how it prepares for relevant legislation, invests in technology to enable visibility and uncover risks, and develops meaningful working relationships with suppliers. Are #fashion brands ready for change?
Legislation is coming for fashion’s supply chains. Are you ready?

📊 Explore our second project outcome - the TRAMA Research Report! This comprehensive study, conducted in two stages, dives deep into the fashion value chain. Our in-depth interviews spanned across 50 fashion and textile companies in various European countries, with a focus on unraveling implementation, challenges and needs in fashion transparency. 🔎 Some of the research conclusions are: 1) Implementation of Policies - While many companies have ethical practice policies, continuous assessment and alignment with international standards are necessary for responsible practices throughout the supply chain. 2) Political Involvement - Political institutions have a moderate level of involvement. Strengthening engagement and regulatory frameworks is essential for sustainable practices. Collaboration between the industry and policymakers can drive positive change. 3) Waste and Recycling Practices - While many companies manage waste effectively, more comprehensive monitoring and management of water consumption are needed to reduce the industry's environmental impact. Today, sustainability in the textile industry is not only an ethical imperative, but also a strategic financial lever. According to recent studies by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Textile Exchange and Quantis, the fashion industry is facing the introduction of more than 35 global sustainability regulations. These regulations could lead to a loss of up to 8% of EBIT for companies in the industry if not met. At this juncture, raw materials play a crucial role as they account for up to two-thirds of a brand's climate impact. Currently, it is estimated that by 2030 only 19% of materials produced will be sustainable, with demand potentially exceeding supply by 133 million tonnes. Companies face two challenges: reducing carbon emissions and adapting quickly to new regulations. #sostenibilita Boston Consulting Group (BCG) Quantis #ue #normativatessile #tessile #moda

According to a recent article from Vogue Business, suppliers in the Global South are still being left out of key sustainability conversations in fashion — and it’s holding the industry back. The Transformers Foundation report, Collective Action Reimagined, sheds light on how suppliers face significant barriers to participation in sustainability initiatives, including limited resources, logistical challenges, and even cultural biases. These challenges often leave them excluded from decision-making processes that shape the industry's future. "𝙏𝙤 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙡𝙮 𝙙𝙧𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙨𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮, 𝙞𝙩’𝙨 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙛𝙖𝙞𝙧 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙡𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙢𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙞-𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙨 (𝙈𝙎𝙄𝙨) 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙮𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙡𝙮 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙞𝙣." The EU has introduced several new regulations to champion and improve sustainability in the fashion industry… 👕 This includes a new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) ♻️ The EPR legislation now means brands are responsible for the entire lifecycle of their products 👉 from design to disposal, ensuring that waste management is built into the business model. 🌿The consumption of textiles has the fourth highest impact on the environment and climate change in Europe, after food, housing, and mobility. 💧Textiles are one of the top three pressures on water and land use, and the top five regarding raw material use and greenhouse gas emissions in the EU. 👥 Employing 1.7 million Europeans, the textiles, clothing, and leather manufacturing sector is a key asset to stimulate local jobs and business opportunities. These new rules are a positive step, to ease fashion’s impact in Europe 🌍 – #FashionImpact #Sustainability #BloomLabs #SustainableFashion #EUGreenDeal

What a busy two days at the Sustainable Apparel and Textiles Conference from Innovation Forum! My brain is buzzing, my notes are messy and heavily misspelled, my linkedin is overwhelming and my social battery is over for the week 😅 Day two is always my favorite day, as all participants have warmed up enough and are ready to deep dive into the highs and lows of sourcing, product creation, legislations, transparency and DPP, consumers behaviours, business models pilots and scale, and more! I'll collect my thoughts and share some key takeaways over the next couple of days, but one thing I immediately want to share is: 👕 There are currently 28BN products circulating in the EU, out of which 23BN are imported from other countries. 🇪🇺 Europe makes up about 40% of the global fashion market. 👉🏼 So wether if you're a brand / supplier / service provider based in Europe or not, the regulatory landscape being established here, cannot be ignored if you want to stay in business! #circulareconomy #circularinnovation #innovationforum

2moLewis Perkins Thank you for emphasizing the critical role of shared responsibility across the value chain. The CS3D requires brands to offer both technical and financial support to value chain partners- as your article points out though there is still unease from production countries that this support will materialise. Based on your experience with the Fashion Climate Fund- what is the one thing that could be strengthened to further unlock funding and ability to transition for those higher up in the value chain?
