With the UN Biodiversity Conference, #COP16, underway, understanding nature risks is critical for investors. I am pleased to share the publication of our latest paper, 'Nature Impacts and Dependencies in Scottish Widows funds'. With a spotlight on Water, leading this paper has been a great way to bring my experience in the Responsible Investments team to life. In producing this paper, I delved deeper into the social and environmental risks business, investors and pension portfolios face from increasing global water challenges. Understanding these ESG-related opportunities and challenges will help protect financial returns whilst securing a world worth retiring into. If interested, please read the paper here: https://lnkd.in/eV3mTKG9

We need a strong and unified leading business voice now to demonstrate renewed support for ambitious nature policies! As #COP16 goes towards its final days, I want to underline what is advocated from the global business community through one of the strong actors; Business for Nature (BfN). More than 230 businesses and financial institutions already called for renewed policy ambition to implement the Global Biodiversity Framework. I have been happy to take part in BfN:s daily morning business briefings, in a welcoming setting, and I have seen the engagement to do good, and to transform business. This morning the briefing had a slight focus on the need for sector based biodiversity transition plans, in line with the national NBSAPs. Surprise; I will present #MiningwithNature tmrw, a sector plan. With that said, I want to encourage the negotiators and the governmental officials at the tables of COP16 to do more. With the words from Business for Nature: “We need governments’ immediate leadership to strengthen – not weaken - the policies, incentives and legislation that will drive the necessary business action to halt and reverse nature loss by 2030”. Our latest Climate and Nature Policy report outlines the IA’s plans to galvanise effective policymaking that accelerates the transition to a low-carbon and climate-resilient economy, while also protecting and enhancing the natural environment and biodiversity. To achieve these ambitious goals, we recognise that a significant mobilisation of capital is now needed. Key commitments and policy asks from the report include calling for an increased focus on improving how firms conduct analysis of climate-related risks and opportunities, greater inclusion of nature and biodiversity-based commitments and a strengthened commitment to the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB). Find out more and read the report in full below.
