CLIMATE IGNORANCE & NEGLIGENCE “What you used to have every 100 years ... starts to happen every 10 years. Then the floods that have been happening once every 10 years now are starting to happen every couple of years. Climate change adaptation means building resilience technologies.” Tiago Marques, co-founder and CEO of Greenmetrics.AI Much of our world has been in denial of climate change. So much so that simple precautions that could have been taken eg need for reviewing urban development regulations in anticipation of changes in precipitation levels, have been ignored. Despite our advances in technology, it does seem that our intelligence is somewhat linear and not holistic, lacking insight and intuition. #climatecrisis #adaptation https://lnkd.in/gFeAbwcE

Why do we react when some mishap happens, when we already know, it is bound to happen. Newspaper editorials are filled with #airportmishap, #bridgecollapse, #heavyrainfall, construction on riverbed and so on, questioning the model of development. But where were these voices when construction was done in the flood plains. On similar notes, nobody bothers about #airpollution, #waterscarcity once the monsoon arrives, but voices will come up during the period of visible impact - winter for air pollution and summer for water shortage. This is how public memory works, which fades away quickly, creating space for political action to exploit this scenario for short term gains. There is an urgent need for a blueprint to develop #resilient infrastructure for #viksitbharat recognising the short and long term #climate #adaptation and #mitigation needs. What is lacking in India is the #publicdemand for #climateaction and #cleanenvironment, which is enshrined in #article21 of the #constitution.

Sustainable Strategies to Combat Heat Waves in Pakistan As we face the increasing threat of heat waves in Pakistan, it’s crucial to adopt sustainable measures to mitigate their impact. Here are some practical suggestions to help counter the heat surge: 1. Plant More Trees: Trees provide shade, reduce temperatures, and improve air quality. Some low-cost and fast-growing tree species in Pakistan include Neem, Sukhchain and Amaltas, these can be planted by anyone in medians, roadsides, and green areas in front of houses. 2. Roof Insulation: Insulate concrete roofs to prevent them from absorbing too much heat. This helps keep interiors cooler, reducing the reliance on air conditioners. 3. Improve Air Circulation: Ensure air vents are provided in rooms and houses for better air circulation. Thoughtful house construction can minimize the need for air conditioners, which are major contributors to global warming. 4. Educate and Advocate: Promote awareness about the importance of planting trees and constructing houses with sustainable practices. Sustainable measures are essential to prevent further heat surges in the coming years. Let’s take these steps together to create a cooler and greener Pakistan! #Sustainability #HeatWave #GreenPakistan #TreePlanting #ClimateAction #EcoFriendly #EnergyEfficiency Engr. Abdul Rauf Khan

https://buff.ly/3U0SRAA Climate change is often associated with global warming, but it goes beyond just rising temperatures. It also brings about significant changes in weather patterns. While places like Dubai are known for hot and dry climates, they are now facing unexpected challenges like increased and more extreme concentrated rainfalls due to climate change.

Heatwave☀🌡 The causes of heatwave in Sindh can include a combination of meteorological factors such as high temperatures, low humidity, and stagnant air masses. Urbanization, deforestation, and climate change can also contribute to the frequency and severity of heat waves in the region. To prevent heatwaves in Sindh, several measures can be taken, including: Implementing heat health warning systems and public education campaigns to increase awareness of the risks of heat waves and ways to stay cool and hydrated. Improving access to water and electricity to ensure people have access to cooling systems. Implementing measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the effects of climate change. Implementing measures to conserve water and reduce water usage to ensure that there is enough water available for cooling and other essential uses during heatwaves. Improving urban design and reducing the urban heat island effect by increasing green spaces and using reflective surfaces to reduce heat absorption. #ProvincialDisasterManagementAuthority #HeatStroke #HeatExhaustion #HeatIllness #SummerSafety #HeatWave #StayHydrated #HeatSafety #HeatAwareness #PreventHeatStroke #WeatherAlert #OutdoorWorkers #Athletes #Runners #Hikers #Elderly #Children #ChronicIllness Government of Sindh Tearfund
