More pot lounges are coming to California. Sacramento just gave the greenlight to 40 more cannabis lounges. What's interesting to me is that this was a contentious vote, with a tied city council, yet the mayor ended up siding in support of pot lounges. That came even though public health leaders had testified against the businesses. Is this a sign of new cannabis openness among California's leaders? These are basically lite cannabis cafes. The new pot lounges can't prepare food on site, but they can sell pre-packaged foods. https://lnkd.in/gCmw3PwY

The fact that this was so contentious leads me to believe we still have a long way to go in terms of normalizing the space. Stoked for Sac Town!

I'm proud of Sacremento, but consumption lounges still have a steep uphill battle to being profitable and sustainable longterm...Yes, the ability to sell pre-packaged food and non-infused drinks is a much needed step in the right direction, but in order to do it right, consumption lounges will need to buy high quality chef made pre-packaged meals, which doesn't leave much room for profit. Same is true for the live entertainment or other added value items needed to not just get people in the door, but keep them coming back.
