Not enough people/companies understand this. Financial incentive is always temporary. Raises only satisfy people temporarily. Then, they want another… and another. When a vision aligns with people, simply doing their job brings value to their lives. They are happier and more satisfied with what they do in their workplace. "It's not money...it's meaning". What drives people to give their best? True but hard to find so many people other than those who asks "what is in it for me (money)?". Currently most civil servants are not living on the minimal monthly salary they earn to do what they hired for and supposed to do. Rather, they do the job only when they get additional compensation in the form perdiem from meetings, workshops, conference, field trips. However it is becoming a problem to motivate people and do a fine work as money is good but meaning should always be the first driver and for creating a sustainable motivator. Especially NGOs has damaged most peoples motivation in long term by paying a compensation to create a short term motivation in people. Look how poor Ethiopia is while so many aids and funds are invested in the country.
