I am here again to share another wonderful learning I acovered a lot of micro and macro topics of marketing segmentation in which our professor told us about the process of dividing a market into smaller more specific groups of consumers who share in the needs and characteristics. Two key factors in market segmentation are Point of Parity (P.O.P) and Point of Difference (P.O.D). P.O.P refers to the common features that a brand or product shares with its competitors while P.O.D is what sets a brand apart from its competitors. Other valuable points were like- • Brand is a bundle of Perceive Value • To build a brand, we need to build C.P.V. • We need P.O.P.s to sustain/ beat competitors. • Free Association Test ( tells why & where the brand is lagging) It was a valuable session with a pinch of humour and fun with lots of learning. #MARKETING #BBA #CCS

When we talk market segmentation, really what we're doing is slicing the market into smaller groups with shared commonalities, but that are different enough to warrant being their own group. There are a million ways to cut a cake, but in all likelihood only a few ways that would work specifically for your brand. That's why demographic and psychographic generalizations often come up short. Making assumptions based on age, place of birth, income, or even out-of-the-box attitudinal traits (i.e.: "are confident enough to experiment") miss the mark because they're too broad and inaccurate. I find it hard to believe that our entire society can be split up into 8 attitudinal groups (see US VALS framework for context). 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱, 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱. If you're a corporate finance firm, in all likelihood you care about client revenues, if they have a CFO or not, and in what growth stage are they in (startups, scale up, established, and so on). 👉 Basing your segmentation on slicing variables that actually matter to your business will yield a much more insightful view of the market. So when it comes to selecting who focus on based on those segments, you'll have a much better idea of how to talk to them and their needs. #marketing #advertising
