As I reflect back on the past couple of weeks, I'm thankful to have had the opportunity to speak(in-person & online) at #ProductWorld 2024 on Feb 22 and Feb 28. My session was on 'Walking the tight rope: product strategy for a two sided marketplace'. My talk covered the following topics: 1. How to start a two-sided marketplace? 2. How to gain traction? 3. How to maintain that traction? I'm immensely thankful to the organizers to have organized a roundtable discussion, post my talk so that I could continue my conversation from the speaking session, connect, network & learn with an audience that was so engaging and curious. I go back from #ProductWorld 2024 with a bagful of insights that I gathered from the talks that I attended on #productmanagement. It was also a great learning experience to attend the expo and know about the product innovation being driven by some of the most disruptive companies in the world. Again, I thank the organizers for inviting me and for carrying out an event of such scale. Special shoutout to Haley Miranda, for co-ordinating with me so flawlessly all throughout. By being consistent and driving forward key initiatives, even if you don't see immediate results, you can drive massive results. It's important to repeatedly enforce your message and educate the market about your solution. 💡 Key insight from Rowan Tonkin, CMO at Planful: Nowadays, you need to get buy-in from CFOs more than ever. When’s the last time you truly had fun at a work conference? Tell the truth - I know we all post the highlights to Linkedin but don’t many of those conferences feel hectic, overwhelming, and hollow? You will always make the best of it, especially if it’s for work but sometimes even the affinity group ones feel like speed dating with 1000s of people at a time. This one was a breath of fresh air and has left me re-energized and ready to give back to my community. I am so grateful I was selected to attend the Product Leader Summit in San Francisco last week with 150 of my peers. With over a 1000 applications, the organizing team was so intentional in curating a super connected and diverse set of senior product leaders. We had the shared connection of being senior product execs in tech and then the organizers intentionally looked at geo, gender, ethnicity, industry, etc to ensure we had an amazingly unique cohort. And the intention didn’t stop there - the speakers, social events, and opportunities to connect before and after the event were all curated with intention and true community building in mind. If you are organizing a conference/gathering, there is a lot to learn here - Quality > Quantity - having a smaller, intimate cohort made a difference in the quality and depth of connections - Curation + Choice - there was a mix of large scale events, small group events, and choose your own adventure events/free time vs having a jam packed agenda - Pre + post event connection - they hosted multiple virtual networking sessions, welcome dinner, attendee profiles + slack channel ahead of the conference and we have that space to follow up with each other I made so many amazing connections that I look forward to growing all year until the next PLS!
