Dear #OBAlawyers, This is a call to action. The Ontario Bar Association executive nominations are now open, and your participation is crucial. As gatekeepers, we all know that our #immigration system is #broken (=not functioning as intended) at all levels. While many of us are vocal critics, only a few accept the responsibility that comes with our role. A heartfelt #ThankYou to all volunteers who have dedicated their time and energy to advance not only our profession’s interests but also its duty to society. Despite the commitment and the dedication, little progress has been made. This is because our #democracy has not yet evolved to recognize expert #civilsociety as the cornerstone of effective #policymaking. Instead, we find ourselves in a paradox where civil society looks to the #government for a seat at the table. This backward dynamic is so ingrained that I have often heard at OBA executive meetings that the government's openness to meet us is a "favor". Think about it: paid, often uninformed public servants are doing expert volunteers a favor by listening to their policy solutions! This #exclusionary practice has bred a pervasive defeatism, reflected in executive meetings where change is deemed "impossible." Throughout the years, slowly but surely we have come to accept the erosion of our role. We have come to accept to bear the front-line stress of the back-end’s ineffectiveness. I call on each of you, the #hopeful and #bold, to help the OBA reclaim its crucial role in shaping our country’s future. Now is the time to get involved. The OBA, while imperfect, remains the strongest potential to transform our immigration system, and you are key to unlocking this potential. Please consider standing for #nomination. For those interested in getting involved or if you have questions, feel free to contact me directly. #BetterImmigrationPolicy
Nominations for the executive of each OBA section for the 2024-2025 term are now open. If you are looking for ways to expand your influence in the association and in the legal profession, consider putting your name forward and getting involved.

🤝 One of the advantages of mediation for use in the field of intellectual property is the unique opportunity for the parties to the conflict to form individual, creative and flexible solutions that take into account the interests of both parties, in contrast to the court process, where the decision is usually made by a judge alone. 📈 About this advantage and numerous other benefits of mediation in the field of intellectual property are told by the representatives of the Mediation Center of IP Office, Ауріка Грибовська and Alla Chaika, at the 5th International Scientific and Practical Conference «Actual Aspects of Modern Scientific Research». 🔎 The focus of the research is the analysis of the successful practice of IP mediation by both Ukrainian jurisdictions and international organizations. 💻👉 Read more about this in the article, which is available in English at the link (page 623): https://lnkd.in/dm5FST6y

Missa inte lanseringen av boken Högkvalitativa skiljeförfaranden i Sverige! 🎉 On 25 June 2024, in conjunction with the AGM of the Swedish Arbitration Associaton, we will celebrate the launch of the book (in Swedish) ‘Högkvalitativa skiljeförfaranden i Sverige’. This book is a must-have for any Swedish speaking lawyer with an interest in commercial dispute resolution. 📙The book is a collection of the first five reports produced within the project ‘SAA Arbitration Reports’. Each report thouroughly investigates an aspect of arbitral procedure with the aim of identifying good practices and recommended solutions to procedural issues. The reports address, in turn, (1) the organising of the proceedings, (2) the hearing, (3) witness and expert evidence, (4) the relationship between efficiency and due process and (5) the drafting of the award. A large number of fantastic arbitration lawyers have been involved in the project. 👩⚖️I am convinced that these reports will be of great use in and develop Swedish arbitration and safeguard its standing as a fast, cost effective and transparent means of resolving commercial disputes. I hope to see as many of you as possible at the launch at the AGM in June (which also will mark the end of my term as President of the Swedish Arbitration Association). For those interested in the book without being able to attend, email [email protected].
On 25 June, the Swedish Arbitration Association welcomes its members to the SAA's Annual General Meeting and the release of the first five SAA Arbitration Reports. After the AGM, we will present the SAA's new website and graphic profile and celebrate the launch of the book Högkvalitativa skiljeförfaranden i Sverige, a collection of the first five reports produced within the SAA Arbitration Reports project.
