Somewhere along the way we've lost our way with potty training, and instead of children being popped on the potty as soon as they can sit securely, we have been waiting for children to take the lead, and the result is children still in nappies at 4 or even 5, when they should be out well before they are 3 and ideally before they are 2. Time for adults to rethink what we are doing, following the research, and just helping our toddlers out of nappies much earlier, like many other countries have always done, and still do. We are monitoring when Tops children come out of nappies, and putting staff training in place to do it earlier - in a positive way, and its starting to work, great for children, the planet, and for our budgets. #topsdaynurseries #sustainableearlyyears

"At the start of Reception in September, eight of the 27 four-year-olds came to school in nappies. The school has had to develop “intimate care plans” to keep them clean as well as providing potty training" Sadly, this story is not unique. This is the daily reality that most Reception teachers are facing up and down the country. I'm sure many of you will have seen the brilliant school readiness report by Kindred Squared that was in the news earlier this year. The report found that: 🚽24% of children are starting school not yet toilet ready 🧻90% of teachers have at least one child in their class who is not toilet ready This affects all children, whether they are toilet trained or not, because when adults have to leave the classroom to help a child get changed after an accident, it disrupts learning for everyone. Based on the Kindred Squared data, I think around 1 hour of teaching time is being lost per day to toileting accidents 🤯 This is a whole-community problem. Parents don't know when and how to start teaching their kids to use the toilet. They're not seeing Health Visitors. Nursery staff are stressed and not trained on this. Local Authorities don't have this on their agenda. By the time kids get to school it's too late. Alongside affecting their education, late toilet training is associated with bowel and bladder problems, so it's affecting children's health too. And of course all those extra nappies aren't doing the planet any good. That's why I'm really excited to be working with ERIC, The Children's Bowel & Bladder Charity, Tops Day Nurseries, UCL and others on solutions to address this problem. Civil Society Origination introduces new concepts and approaches practical and directly relevant for what we live, practice and improving life. they revitalize the existing services by the incorporating proven practices to existing approaches to improve mothers, children and young people health, literacy, safety, wellbeing and development. I started in Civil Society as a client by joining pre-primary school in the remote rural community. Had it not been CSO, I had never joined school. They came and collaborate with my rural community, hired a teacher, provided us books and education materials. My community constructed class room from wood, mad and grass, prepared sits from wood trunk where we sat to attend. This was the example how civil society introduced institution based learning into holistic community child education. I appraised CSO's development and humanitarian project when working in government (30 years go) and served in local and international Civil Society Organization two decades. The civil society resources have been taking me to community where I directly invest my services to people effort with great wealth and deceive power, justice and development. Civil societies are enthusiastic to move to remote communities, hear the neglected bring their power for their own purpose, express their feeling and explore their resources and issues. They empower the community to assess their personal, family and community assets, pool together and decide on their issues and administer life improving actions. The Civil Society introduced community centered, child centered, social accountability, community conversation and local ownership in mother and child health service and literacy. They have protection of child and the vulnerability adults safeguarding policies. They use compassion and empathy for working with diverse community groups. Civil society pledge no one left behind from development. They introduce health, water, education road in the forgotten remote communities. Though my community says in some form, I heard for the first time and applied empowerment, inclusion, evidence and asset based, human rights, gender, community mobilization, project cycles, community conversation, capacity building, safe guarding, positive youth development and many others. They are hero to move to where there is no facility, hear the poor, the neglected and the marginalized. They evolve the power of people for the people, not to abuse or misuse the resources and power of people. They invest energy to directly benefit and make people to be nurtured, survive and advance for themselves free from any form of imposition.

Not sure where to start with family engagement? Try one of these 5 strategies. ⬇️ 1️⃣ Collect parent, caregiver, and family perspectives. By involving families in some decisions and soliciting their input on policies and initiatives, schools and districts can help families feel more ownership in the educational process. 2️⃣ Provide at-home resources. To help families reinforce classroom learning, schools can send home resources like links to websites explaining a concept or conversation starters encouraging dinner-table discussion about classroom topics. 3️⃣ Provide education opportunities. Family members can stay connected to school by attending school-sponsored workshops and seminars. 4️⃣ Invite families to volunteer. Parents and caregivers who have the time and interest make great classroom and school volunteers. They can get involved in the library, fundraising events, field trips, and after-school activities. 5️⃣ Recognize and appreciate engaged family members. Families appreciate it when schools acknowledge their engagement efforts. In addition to certificates of appreciation, thank-you notes, and awards, administrators can publicize family recognition with announcements to the community. Did you know we recently partnered with ParentSquare to help improve family engagement? We're so excited to achieve great things for school communities as a team. 🙌 #EdLeadership #Education #SchoolLeaders

Transmogrify: "The Fathering Project" Connect on linkedIn. https://lnkd.in/gXv4Mj95 Why? Founded in 2013 by Professor Bruce Robinson in Western Australia, The Fathering Project now has a national footprint in metro, rural and remote communities across the country. The Fathering Project is a secular not-for-profit organisation which provides research-based programs and resources to engage, inform, equip and support fathers, father figures, families, schools, corporates and community organisations. We aim to connect the community to build brighter futures for our children. The research says when fathers are engaged and equipped to be the best they can be, it has significant benefits for a child’s health and wellbeing. Dads Groups are the Project’s core activity and are established within schools and community groups across the country. The groups provide a safe, inclusive and positive environment where father-figures can learn, share, grow and connect with each other, and their kids. The Fathering Project also conducts regular research, evaluating its programs, as well as looking more broadly into societal trends and issues that impact fatherhood.

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN! Please note: IF you were registered previously for any of our programmes you will need to register again to get your login details! This 10-week teacher led wellbeing and resilience programme aims to help children understand and manage their emotions to become guardians of their own well-being. Visit https://lnkd.in/gvTyj24 to register your class today. We need support, in order to continue to improve and roll out the programme and reach every school and child with these essential wellbeing tools, which is why The Rising is so key to us as an organization. Why support The Rising? The mental health and wellbeing of children & young people in Ireland is ever-declining with many experiencing an unprecedented level of stress and anxiety. The consequences can be devastating. Preventative mental health education in schools is proven to work yet it is not embedded in the curriculum. A Lust For Life is filling the gap. We develop preventative mental health school programmes, which teach children from the earliest age how to enhance and protect their mental health. Since launching in 2020, our digital free of charge primary schools programme has been delivered in over 3,500 classrooms with a reach of over 92,000 children nationwide. The funds raised last year contributed to the development of our Junior & Senior Infants Programme which is launching nationwide in August 2024 in time for back to school. We now need funding to develop our secondary school programme starting with 1st year! Our aim is to provide mental health education to support children from junior infants to Leaving Cert in a systematic, continuous and age-appropriate way. We receive no government funding so we rely entirely on your financial support to develop our programmes and reach more children. ✨ Proud to introduce Casa Luar: Illuminating Pathways to Equity in Health and Education, Starting Right Here in the RGV - Growing up in the Rio Grande Valley, I witnessed firsthand the health and educational disparities that so many in our community face. These are not simply individual struggles; they are the result of systemic inequities that have been perpetuated for far too long. However, I also witnessed the incredible resilience, strength, and potential of our community, a potential that has been stifled and underestimated by a world that sees us as a minority. - At Casa Luar, we believe that we are not a minority, but a majority whose voices have been silenced and whose contributions have been overlooked. We are committed to empowering our community through education and advocacy, starting with our children. - Our objective is to implement a comprehensive community-based education and outreach model that empowers individuals and communities to take proactive steps in both their health and general education journeys. This model aims to improve health outcomes, enhance educational attainment, reduce disparities, and foster a culture of lifelong learning and well-being. By planting a seed that will continue to grow, we aspire to create a self-sustaining community where individuals learn from each other, perpetuating a cycle of continuous improvement and shared knowledge. - I was inspired by my Methods of Play Intervention class at the Steve Hicks School of Social Work. My professor, Lisa DeGraff, taught and inspired me to help children unlock their fullest potential, become leaders, and be independent by allowing them to see the world and their obstacles in their own language: play. A quote that struck me was from Gary Landreth, "Play is a child's language and toys are their words." We will engage children in interactive workshops that make learning about health fun and accessible. Through colorful and playful slideshows, we will teach them essential life skills – from proper dental hygiene to the importance of exercise, healthy eating, and drinking water. -For our high school students, we will provide guidance and support on navigating the college application process and thriving in a university environment. We want them to know that college is not just about surviving but flourishing, and that their goals are within reach. 💫 We believe that by investing in our children and youth, we are investing in the future. Together, we can build a healthier, more equitable, and more vibrant community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive, not hindered by any human-made obstacle powered by greed. 🌟 We are thrilled to share that Micha Johnson, our dedicated Director of the Early Embrace Initiative, is now serving on the Advisory Council of the Nashville Early Education Coalition (NEEC)! 🌟 NEEC’s strategic direction is powered by a diverse group of 29 leaders from early childhood education, state and local government, and business and philanthropic communities—all uniting with a single goal: to alleviate Nashville’s child care crisis and build a more robust, interconnected child care ecosystem. Child care access in Davidson County faces significant challenges that impact families, early childhood development, workforce participation, and the local economy. With only eight child care centers per 1,000 children and wait lists spanning years, it's clear that action is essential. A 2022 report highlights the gravity of the issue, revealing that 60% of working parents in Davidson County have experienced employment disruptions due to challenges related to child care, resulting in $275.4 million in economic losses last year. As an integral voice on the Advisory Council, Micha Johnson will contribute to aligning resources, sharing vital information, and fostering meaningful community engagement. This collaboration will help transform the current fragmented marketplace into a cohesive, healthy child care ecosystem, as noted by Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee CEO Hal Cato during NEEC's recent announcement. We are proud to support this important work that aligns with our mission to serve the community through innovative, early education solutions. 💙 #ChildCareSolutions #CommunitySupport #EarlyEducation #NEEC #JusticeIsHealing
