I had an interesting conversation with a VC and told her that my biggest asset is the relationships that I built with founders and investors. She dismissed me and said you don’t need that today to be a top investor. I strongly disagree. Most founders pitch only to large groups of angels, and they forget that attracting an angel investor is about building a one-on-one relationship. After my experiences in the past five years, I see a big difference in startups where the Founders also selected their angel investors and looked for chemistry, network, and expertise matching rather than just looking for money & accepting any kind of a deal.
