As #FertilityAwarenessWeek2024 begins, we’re sharing this honest view from a participant in our recent IVF Eligibility Survey. For those who have experienced fertility treatment firsthand, you will know all too well that it isn’t a luxury - it is often the only path to fulfilling the dream of bringing home a baby. You know the physical toll, the emotional impact and the financial burden that fertility treatment takes - all without any guarantee of success. Yet, the lingering misconception of fertility treatment as a “luxury” perpetuates a harmful view that affects not only individuals, but also the support available from governments, workplaces, friends and family too. This outdated perception continues to impact the mental health of those facing a fertility struggle and the policies surrounding fertility treatment. The fertility experience in America is surprisingly grim. Did you know that: - Fertility treatments can cost upwards of $20k per cycle - Around 1 in 6 couples struggle with infertility - 40% of employers don't offer any fertility benefits - Only 21 states require at least some coverage for infertility coverage - Legalities vary state by state + many providers use that to their advantage Given the financial and insurance barriers, you can imagine how only certain demographics have access to fertility care. But here's the kicker: fertility issues are not a "one type fits all" thing. There are many types of fertility treatments. There are many types of fertility issues. While providers strive to deliver compassionate care, the harsh reality is that many find themselves overwhelmed and stretched thin. Burdened by excessive workloads, antiquated systems, and rigid workflows, they often lack the time and resources to truly understand and cater to each patient's unique circumstances. Reproductive health matters are deeply personal. Yet, without the proper technological and process support, providers are left struggling to offer the individualized, compassionate care these sensitive situations demand.
