Good news: WindEurope expects the EU to install an average of 29 GW per year in the 2024-30 period, reaching a total of 393 GW of wind capacity by the end of the decade—close to the 425 gigawatts required to meet 2030 targets. Not so good news: In order to connect new wind farms and make the rapid expansion of renewables possible, governments are now called to accelerate the build-out of electricity grids and invest more in transport infrastructure, according to the industry group. #WindPower #ClimateAction #ClimateTech #CleanEnergy #ClimateChange #SustainableFuture #energygrid https://lnkd.in/epdgT5Ud

The UK has been ranked second-best in the world for floating offshore wind, according to a new report from RenewableUK. The report also reveals that the global offshore floating #wind pipeline has grown by 9% in the last 12 months, with 102MW of capacity under construction worldwide. Additionally, the report reveals that the UK's floating wind industry could employ as many as 97,000 people by 2050, contributing up to £47 billion to the #UK economy. By the year 2050, with the right support in place, floating turbines could provide as much as a third of the UK's #offshore wind capacity, with 40GW potentially operational by this time. Some positive news from The Labour Party on renewable energy policy with the increase in wind power budgets for the upcoming auction. However with a 10-15 year wait to connect the wind farms to the national grid there is a major problem to decarbonise our energy. We really need to speed to up grid connection processes so this is an area where Ed Miliband needs to focus on if we want to get our grid close to net zero! #sustainability #energy #windpower https://lnkd.in/eiQZ-jZY

The UK Government have just awarded nine offshore wind farm projects in the latest UK Auction. This is after just 0 bids were put forward in the last auction in September 2023 and is widely considered a huge step for delivering a NetZero generation environment and the electricity sector. The projects that have been won include tidal and solar power which the government believe will be enough to fuel the equivalent of 11 million UK homes. #ESG #Sustainability #Sustainable #Energy #NetZero #Environment #Offshorewind #Wind #Offshore #Generation https://lnkd.in/er8b2yBc

UK's Renewable News The bidding window for the UK's Allocation Round 6 (AR6) auction is now officially open. National Grid ESO is inviting sealed bids from renewable energy developers until 9 August 2024. This year, more than 10GW of offshore wind capacity is eligible to participate in Pot 3, with a substantial £300m boost to the budget, bringing the total to an impressive £1.1bn. Onshore wind and solar will compete in Pot 1, which has a budget of £185m. It's anticipated that 2GW-3GW of capacity will be secured across these technologies through this auction. With the winners set to be announced in early September, the race is on to drive the UK's renewable future forward. Looking forward to seeing how this round shapes the future of sustainable energy in the UK! #RenewableEnergy #OffshoreWind #OnshoreWind #SolarPower #AR6 #Sustainability #NetZero

Important news for grid infrastructure to unlock UK renewable generation as Ofgem has announced the green light for the UK's largest electricity transmission project to date—the Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2). EGL2, from Aberdeenshire to East Yorkshire, will carry enough renewable electricity from offshore wind farms to power two million homes. In turn, it will improve energy security, transmission efficiency, and leave a long-lasting environmental legacy for nearby communities. The project is the first of four planned subsea electricity links, with eventual capacity aiming to power 7.5 million homes with renewable electricity. Any thoughts or perspectives? #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #NetZero #EnergySecurity #FutureofEnergy #UKRenewables #CIL #Offshore

Top stories today 🪁 GB Energy proposals fail to temper offshore wind concerns https://buff.ly/46z29cK The current formation of Great British Energy has failed to assuage fears raised by renewable energy developers. Not only do current proposals not go far enough but additional proposals under consideration also fall short, according to RenewableUK head of strategic communications Nathan Bennett. 🟢 Can we act fast enough to hit 2030? https://buff.ly/4cafI3P The government has pledged to speed up the development of critical energy and water infrastructure. But how will it overcome concerns about community and environmental impacts? George Simpson of property consultancy Fisher German LLP asks whether it's time for a more radical approach. ⚠️ Mooted new energy efficiency standard branded ‘obsolete’ already https://buff.ly/4ccwcZ3 Scotland’s mooted new buildings energy efficiency standard would be "obsolete" before it even comes into force, according to the country's solar sector. Solar Energy UK criticised the proposal because it contains no requirement for on-site renewables. It comes after The Scottish Government published a consultation on a new set of building regulations, which are closely modelled on the widely-admired international Passivhaus standard.
