I’m looking forward to this important discussion. We have a diverse gender-balanced customer base, so it makes sense that if we want to serve them well, we should be a diverse gender-balanced industry. We need customers to swiftly adopt a new technology, so we need to effectively communicate to both women and men about the change. Women report how they find car adverts boring, there is too much jargon without explanation, and that dealer staff speak only to their male partners, or send correspondence to them addressed to “Mr.”
🎉 WE ARE PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE FOUR FABULOUS PANELLISTS WHO WILL DISCUSS "INCLUSION AND THE FEMALE CUSTOMER": Nicole Melillo Shaw MD at Volvo Car UK, Stuart Mustoe CEO at TrustFord, Erin Baker Editorial Director at Auto Trader UK and Michelle Breffitt Co Founder of Women Drive Electric! 🎉 This panel of automotive leaders and influencers will appear at our Automotive 30% Club member conference on May 16th, and will explore the premise that gender-balanced businesses with inclusive cultures will include and serve the female customer better, because they will not automatically default to the male version of a customer. Women are predicted to become the majority vehicle purchasers in the near future, and will play a critical role in the transition to electric vehicles. Exciting News! I've been selected as a Judge for this year's Reuters Events: Automotive D.R.I.V.E in the category of Empowering Women! This recognition is a testament to the incredible work being done in the automotive industry to uplift and support women. Why is this important? In a time when the automotive sector is evolving rapidly, empowering women is not just a trend—it's essential for innovation and growth. I’ve witnessed firsthand how diverse perspectives lead to groundbreaking ideas and solutions. The challenge? Many still resist change and the integration of diverse voices in decision-making. Here’s what I believe: When we empower women in this industry, we create a ripple effect that enhances creativity, productivity, and success. This year, I am thrilled to return to the panel of esteemed judges who are passionate about driving empowerment even further in our sector. Why This Matters: Empowering women is crucial for the future of the automotive industry. Celebrating our differences and leveraging our unique perspectives makes for a more powerful and innovative sector. __________ P.S. If you're interested in learning more about how to get involved, comment below, and I’ll share more details! #cars #electricvehicles #EVbatteries #EV #automotive

WOMEN ARE 17% MORE LIKELY TO DIE IN A CAR ACCIDENT AND A WHOPPING 73% MORE LIKELY TO BE INJURED, according to US research data. To women in automotive: when you drive your car, does the seat belt slip up from your hips and go over your lower stomach instead? Are the head restraints in the wrong place? Does the seat belt cross your neck even if on the lowest notch? Does the seat belt carve between your boobs? Can you not adjust the seat height high enough? Do the occupant sensors think you’re not in the seat? This is because the industry uses the crash test dummy of a small man rather than one designed to emulate the female body. Male crash test dummies were designed for the safety of pilots in the early 20th century - a largely male population. They were then applied in automotive - an almost gender balanced population back in the 70s, and definitely balanced today. The men in charge saw no reason to have a different approach for women. If we had gender-balanced diverse teams of engineers, OEM boards, regulators and NCAP officials I believe this would not be happening. It is not acceptable to allow a woman to be at greater risk than men, yet sex disaggregated data is only recently being explored. Fair play to Volvo Cars for taking action and now using an accurate female crash test dummy. We need more women to be in positions of influence in automotive, and we need to invest in them and the female customer - it will save lives. We need to stop defaulting to the male version of a customer or employee and recognise females as well. Join our InspIring Conversation to explore this further👇.

“What are your 3 main reasons why we should inspire more women for the automotive industry?” I was asked by the wonderful Agnes Lehbrink. My answer? #1 For the automotive industry: To cope with the complexity of current challenges, we need more diversity in automotive companies. Because “only variety absorbs variety” as Ashby's law from cybernetics puts it. Companies with a high degree of diversity in terms of experience, culture and gender are more likely to be able to find solutions to complex issues, as their joint solution space and wealth of experience is broader. This is why diverse companies are more successful. #2 For the women: If you love challenges and enjoy dealing with highly relevant topics, this is the industry for you. The mobility ecosystem has so much to offer that I would like to encourage young women to contribute their ideas and perspectives and help shape the mobility of tomorrow. #3 For our children: Looking at my two daughters I am determined to put off Automotive as a “male-dominated” industry and encourage all girls to follow their dreams. Role models will help them a lot because “if you can see it, you can be it”. Thanks a lot for the interview Automobilwoche, Agnes Lehbrink and Matthias Pioro. It was a real pleasure. I've always felt that motivation is overrated. It's a nice-to-have more than a must-have. There's a ton of things we can do without feeling motivated. That's where all our habits and tools come in. For me, this includes: ✅ Weekly priority setting ✅ Time-blocking ✅ An up-to-date to-do list ✅ End-of-day reviews ✅ Tons of Alexa reminders! What's your take on motivation and how to work when you don't have it? #leadershipdevelopment #leadership #professionalgrowth #womenempoweringwomen #womenatwork #womenintech #WomenInLeadership #femaleleaders #womeninautomotive #corporateculture #peopleandculture #TheGoodSelfish #RoadToSuccess #ShiftIntoConfidence
"You won’t always be motivated. You just have to be disciplined." – For women carving their path in the automotive industry, discipline is the true game changer. It’s what gets you through the challenges, the long hours, and the obstacles on your way to success. 🌟🚗 Remember, it’s not about how motivated you feel, it’s about sticking to the work that matters. What will you stay committed to this week? #WIA #MondayMotivation #WomenInLeadership #DisciplineWins #CareerAdvancement #AutomotiveIndustry

BRAVO MERCEDES-BENZ! THE RIGHT NARRATIVE FOR DRIVING SUCCESS As we close out March - Women's History Month - I have to share this phenomenal short from Mercedes-Benz AG. And, apparently I'm late to the game as I learned that Mercedes first introduced #beoneofmany in March 2023. This is a powerful reminder that ambitious business objectives become reality only with the best talent from diverse teams. #brandmarketing #diversity #talent https://lnkd.in/eDN7zSHZ

Luminary's 2024 Women's History Month Summit! Today, on International Women's Day, I draw inspiration from Luminary’s 2024 Women’s History Month Summit and move forward feeling empowered, motivated and optimistic about our future. One of the event sponsors at Luminary was a high end luxury car company whose average car price is around $250,000. I chatted with their head of regional marketing in attendance and asked them "What in particular made your company sponsor this event for women entrepreneurs?" Their response was that 80% of automotive purchasing decisions are made by women, and they were certain that the room was full of potential clients for their luxury cars. I think that really speaks to how far we've come as business owners - that a luxury car company, whose 2023 revenue was 1.23 billion, recognizes our potential and sponsors our events to be in the room with us. Happy International Women's Day! How are you celebrating? Share in the comments. #iwd2024 #iwd #internationalwomensday #womenshistorymonth #smallbusiness #finance Cate Luzio
