We all want districts and schools to make evidence and research-based decisions about edtech and AI...but how do we do that reliably with the exponential rate of change the field is seeing? Check out this article to see some of the ways we're exploring how to identify rigorous research that can be produced at a more rapid pace to ensure education leaders have reliable information to make decisions! Thanks so much to Kip Glazer and Pati Ruiz for collaborating on this piece!
As ESSER and stimulus funding dwindle, district leaders face the challenge of determining which edtech tools to invest in. Traditional methods like randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are often impractical for timely decision-making in education, as written in a new Getting Smart Blog by Sierra Noakes, Kip Glazer, and Pati R. Digital Promise’s new Evidence-Based Edtech product certification offers a solution by incorporating mixed-methods, correlational, and quasi-experimental research to evaluate edtech tools' effectiveness. This approach provides a more holistic understanding of student experiences, engagement, and community impact, ensuring district leaders can make informed, timely decisions. Elevating qualitative research is crucial. Using mixed methods, we can ask nuanced questions like, “Why did a tool not work for all students?” This ensures that tools fostering a sense of community and belonging are prioritized, ultimately enhancing learning outcomes and student well-being: https://lnkd.in/gFcuBmt2 #GettingSmart #GettingSmartBlog #DigitalPromise #EdTech #EdTechTools #Research #StudentExperience #Engagement #CommunityImpact
