Ignore the discount wars. I help clients set realistic fees to cover the costs of delivering a high-quality swim school experience. Even if their fees are higher than others in the area, this approach ensures they can achieve their ambitions. Recently, a client hesitated citing local council significantly discounts and another program in their area who hadn't changed fees since 2018. Through discussion, it was agreed that without generating the required revenue, they are unable to deliver the desired program standards, and the experiences the customers were seeking. By setting proper fees, they can: · Select, train, and develop skilled swim teachers, unlike programs relying on quickly trained staff who often rely on laminated reference sheets to guide them through their lesson’s delivery. · Spend time weekly with their team, providing continuous support, coaching, and education. · Offer a top-notch, personalised customer experience. · Connect regularly with others in the sector, experts and peers, for inspiration and growth. · Maintain a clean, well-kept facility, with dedicated staff for venue presentation. · Deliver the outcomes and experience the customers were looking for. I am pleased my client chose to invest in quality over joining the discount wars. Make sure you set your fees at the level where your revenue stream allows you to deliver the standard of program and the customer experience you aspire to. #swimming #swimpeople #swimpeoplespeak #swimschool

It’s Friday, and I get to reflect on the week gone by. This week, I felt that fire in my belly – the love for swimming and the sense of purpose that brings us all together in this industry. Knowing that we’re making a difference is so fulfilling. It may sound a little cheesy, but those who resonate will get it! I’ve had the chance to be creative in my role, which can be hard to sum up when people ask what I do. Some weeks focus on site visits, partner support, conversions, product implementation, and lesson observations. Other weeks are all about innovation – developing products, designing training, and adding that Swim England touch to collaborative projects. It’s all about equipping operators, swim schools, and partners with the best tools to deliver quality swimming across the country. Of course, there’s also our BAU work, supporting swim school members, teachers, parents, and other Swim England departments. I thoroughly enjoy the creative process, and yesterday, in particular, I got to showcase new ideas for swimmers and parents. Do you take the time to reflect on your weekly or monthly workload? I haven’t always practiced this, but since returning to work, I’m embedding more ways to appreciate what I do and build self-gratitude. #lovewhatyoudo #learntoswim #swimengland #selfreflection

How to choose a good swim school for your baby, toddler or beginner swimmer. As a parent or carer, you play a crucial role in choosing a Swim School that will enhance your child’s Drowning Prevention Skills. Here are some key factors to consider in your decision-making process. We’ve also included practical insights into what to look out for in classes or a swim program that will NOT maximise their development. Welcome to our 20-part Superfish Educational Series with Andrew Baildon OLY and Karen Baildon. It’s alarming to know that 75% of Australian 4-5-year-olds lack life-saving, self-saving drowning prevention skills. This means children are either not being taught at all, or they are being taught the wrong way, and the parents don’t realise. As Learn to Swim Experts, we aim to drive awareness and share real-world drowning prevention insights and tips. So please share these videos with friends and family with young children - you could save a life! When it comes to helping swimmers learn new skills, it’s not always about telling them what to do but putting them in position to be successful. Provide them with the tools to swim better and swim different, and they’ll make it happen. Improving the breaststroke pull can be difficult. It’s hard to describe and hard for some swimmers to understand. What we really want is for swimmers to create more propulsion. We don’t care how they do it. In this set, we’ll take away the legs to put more pressure on the arms, and then add the legs back so swimmers can practice putting it all together. The challenge and the change come from what they have to do within the set. They have to learn to create length, and they have to learn to create speed, mostly with the arms, and in different contexts. That’s going to challenge them to figure out how to hold more water, and they’ll get objective feedback every swim. That drives learning.

As summer draws to a close at Donner Lake, I’ve been soaking in these last paddleboarding sessions before the chill sets in. 🛶 The water is so crystal clear that you can see everything beneath the surface like the tops of big boulders just barely peeking above, hinting at the larger rocks hiding below. It reminds me how life often works the same way. From a distance everything may seem calm and smooth, but underneath there are always obstacles waiting for us. Just like on the water, if I don’t navigate carefully my paddleboard fin could hit a rock and throw me off balance and send me straight into the water. It’s a powerful reminder to tread carefully through life’s uncertainties. If you’re facing hidden challenges, whether personal or professional, having support can make all the difference. I’m here to help you uncover what’s beneath the surface and find strategies to navigate through it with confidence. Let’s connect and explore how we can face these challenges together, bringing clarity as clear as the Donner Lake waters to your personal and professional growth. "Hello, parents of high school rowers! As you plan your child's summer rowing camps, consider the perfect duo: rowing camp and elite coaching on the erg. These two elements can work hand in hand, creating a harmonious and highly productive experience for your son or daughter. While rowing camp offers valuable on-water experience, adding elite coaching on the erg ensures they master the technical aspects crucial for success. With this combination, your child can seamlessly transition between land and water training, maximizing their potential. Why? Well, for better or worse, the erg score often plays a significant role in your child's future, from making the first boat to getting recruited. Seat racing may come into play, and it's only fair to pick athletes who can truly move a boat efficiently. The good news? What your child learns on the erg translates seamlessly to the water. So, adding elite coaching to their summer lineup won't interfere with rowing camp—it'll enhance it. With this added support, your son or daughter will be poised to excel faster than ever before. Don't miss out on this opportunity to give them a competitive edge!"

When swimmers are working to execute great skills for longer periods of time, dropping in skill reminders can be a powerful way to maintain skills, all without disrupting the flow of training. That way, you get improvements in skill and fitness at the same time. A lot of swimmers struggle to hold their skills together during longer sets, and even more struggle to learn more effective skills during longer sets. By incorporating drills throughout the sets, swimmers can get reminders of what they need to be doing and how they need to do it. In this set, the focus is on maintaining excellent timing throughout. Before each longer swim, swimmers will perform underwater recovery to help them lock in that timing. If they lose it during the freestyle, they have another chance to get it back. We’ll also hold swimmers accountable to effective skills by requiring them to maintain their stroke count throughout. That way we develop and enhance skills without losing any of the training benefits.
