Cheers to the women who continue to break past the cement ceiling during their careers in biopharma. However; shocking trends remain. Its industry-specific analysis showed that while women outnumber men in entry-level roles in the pharmaceuticals and medical products segment, making up 52% of those positions, female representation steadily decreases at every subsequent rung of the job ladder, culminating in just a 28% share of C-suite positions. This is a decline of 33% last year. Even more shocking, according to McKinsey’s latest report, the women who make up 29% of C-suite positions across all industries break down into 22% white women and JUST 7% women of color. I anticipate this decline will worsen within the next 4 years with the war against DEI and the rise of the MAGA movement.

Tomorrow, Mar 8th, is International Women's Day. It is a not only a celebration of the women in our lives but also a reminder that there is still much work to be done. As Barbara Cheifet summed it nicely in her latest editorial, "It takes something extra as a woman to be comfortable being authentic as a leader when you are used to seeing leadership done in a certain way. The Sisterhood model should act as a blueprint for other areas in which women are struggling, such as academia and the venture side of biotech... Using a combination of sponsorship in addition to mentorship will raise these minorities to more equal status than they have at present." I couldn't agree more. This is part of the reason why I co-founded Pink Lions to create a safe space for the #LGBT community to share experiences, network, and demonstrate that an authentic self is an enabler to building meaningful professional relationships that moves a career forward. I hope to take a leaf out of the book in the women's movement to continue advocating for #DEI and women's rights. Today I am proud to have worked with, and importantly, learned from many women leaders and founders who are my peers, mentors, and friends: Molly McGlaughlin, Sandhya Sriram, PhD, Ka Yi Ling, PhD, Camille Newton, Patricia Panaia, Mei-Ling Lu, Megan Blewett are just a few of my superstars who deserve all the respect. Did I mention that Kudo Biotechnology is #womenled & with women in 50% of our leadership? I don't think it is a coincidence that I'm with such an organization today! #womeninbusiness #womeninbio #womenfounders #womenentrepreneur

'Biotech can be a lonely place for a female CEO' Wonderful article, highlighting the need for #sisterhood / networking as a core need among women leaders, which is feminine and yet so intuitive. Great read for any women leaders in #biotech.
