The new Intelligent Algorithms are developed to help growers and propagators grow young plants in a more data-driven and autonomous way by controlling the right humidity and Light/Temperature balance according to the Plant Empowerment Principles. With this software, the number of settings is reduced and simplified largely. Settings Like Desired DLI (Daily Light Integral), Photoperiod and RTR (Ratio Temperature to Radiation) are simplifying the daily controls of the grower. In this way, the crop activity and the vegetative/generative balance of the plant are supported in a more consistent and repeatable way.

Drought is a significant stressor in plants and if prolonged, it can eventually cause plants to become discoloured, wilt and die, resulting in lower crop yield for farmers. SMART's Disruptive & Sustainable Technologies for Agricultural Precision (DiSTAP) interdisciplinary research group (IRG), in collaboration with Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory (TLL) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), have pioneered the world’s first Covalent Organic Framework (COF) sensors integrated within silk fibroin (SF) microneedles for detection of drought stress in plants. This advanced technology can detect pH changes, specifically a reduction in acidity in plant xylem tissues, providing early warning of drought stress in plants up to 48 hours before traditional methods. This breakthrough can potentially allow farmers to optimise crop production and yield by mitigating drought stress.
