What a week to step out into the world as a small business owner … What better way to start than attending this year’s Investors in People Conference - Make Work Better.  Some amazing guest speakers including Kirstin Furber, Petra Velzeboer, Joe Wicks, Gethin Nadin and Ruby Wax. As well as some awesome panel members including Idris Arshad, Julie Stephens, Janet O'Hehir, Declan McAllister, Holly Stevenson MCIPD and Hayley Staff MCIPD. The conference reminded me how important it is to create great environments for our teams to thrive and to be able to show vulnerability ourselves as leaders. Gethin also made me smile with his insight about HR peeps. After working in the HR & OD world for nearly 30 years it’s official. People don’t hate us any more (well at least in the UK and Europe). We’re actually really valuable and a huge catalyst for change in businesses! This has made me reflect on how lucky I've been to work with some amazing colleagues and customers who realise 2 things. If we want a thriving, high performing business it starts yet also continues with our people. So having excellent people expertise around you is a deal breaker. The second is that it's our relationships that get things done. Building a trusted connection that lasts. …. And what better way to end my first week than getting to spend some time with one of my amazing clients EPS - Engineering Power Solutions . A perfect example of a business who continues to thrive because they're values led and people centric.
