A little secret about hiring: we were terrible at it at first. Here's what changed... In the beginning at AgencyAnalytics, we underestimated the effort and expertise needed to attract and hire outstanding people. The turning point was during the pandemic. As a remote-first company, we had a strategic advantage, but we needed to take 3 critical steps to capitalize on this opportunity. 1️⃣ Hiring an HR Leader Initially, our focus was on building products and serving customers, not hiring. Bringing in an HR leader transformed our recruitment process. Together, we rapidly hired the right people at a vital time for our high growth. 2️⃣ Internal Recruiters As we matured in our approach, hiring exceptional internal recruiters became crucial. There's no replacement for recruiters who understand your business and serve as cultural ambassadors to potential employees. 3️⃣ Future Planning Shifting to a proactive hiring strategy was a game-changer. You can't be reactive with hiring, especially as a bootstrapped, profitable company. We strategically assessed where new hires would fit for the long term. Key takeaway: During high growth, it's okay not to have all the answers. If your expertise lies in engineering, product development, sales, or marketing, seek out the expertise you need to hire well.
