Not your usual 6-figure pitch competition... I'm proud that we're running something a little different among the many great pitch competitions Michigan Tech Week. Our Michigan Founders Fund Venture Together Competition is giving out serious non-dilutive (grant) capital to a team of founders composed of different start-ups, working collaboratively - with the goal to support one another in achieving mutual success and growth. Not only that, but we are incentivizing these high-growth, largely tech-based, start-up companies to also address how they will directly benefit the people, planet, or places in their communities. The best part is that we don't have to try hard - so many of our Michigan founders are already building solutions with this in mind. There is no new product pitch, no slides, no hockey stick graphs... rather, our incredible founders will be focused on questions like how they will collectively build the well-being and prosperity of others, grow their businesses in-state, and contribute to a healthy, thriving community. Then one team walks off with $120,000 in cash and additional prizes. A collective mindset really pays off! 18 months ago I stepped onto the Relay rocketship 🚀that’s on an accelerated trajectory to be the financial command center for 33M U.S. small businesses. Today, I’m proud to share our Series B fundraise of USD$32.2M — it brings our total funding to USD$51.6M. I’ve done the startup growth thing before. But at Relay, it’s different. We’re obsessed with building experiences for our small business customers that solve their real money management problems. Here’s an example of what I mean. Late last year we rolled out a new way for our customers to get access to their funds faster. The Risk team built this from a customer experience perspective first. Each choice we made—and continue to make—was about prioritizing how this process could be better for a small business owner trying to pay bills, make payroll and grow their business. In a lot of organizations, that’s not the perspective a Risk team would lead with. At Relay, I’ve watched my team not only rally around our small business owner’s needs, but get excited by them. Thanks to this kind of focus, we’ve connected thousands of customers to their money faster and that number grows every day. This customer-obsessed problem solving inspires me and the Series B funding is about fueling this kind of thinking in Risk and across all of Relay. I’m excited to keep building with this incredible team and driving better outcomes for small business owners.

Looking for HBCU Partnership Opportunities for a Fintech Pilot Program Hello HBCU Family, I originally reached out to my alma mater to explore a partnership for piloting my Fintech software, but unfortunately, I haven’t been able to gain any traction. So, I’m now reaching out to see if there are any other HBCUs that could benefit from this opportunity. As we all know, when students graduate, they’re often faced with a wave of bills and financial responsibilities without a clear strategy or plan in place. My software is specifically designed to provide access to expert financial planning at an affordable cost—just $8 a month after a free 30-day trial. This program could be incredibly beneficial for students, helping them navigate their financial futures with more confidence and clarity. I’m also willing to discuss a revenue-sharing model with the university to make this partnership even more valuable. As a Black female founder in the Fintech space, I’ve faced significant challenges, especially since only 1% of us receive VC funding. Any help or connections that could lead to an HBCU where I can pilot this program would be immensely appreciated.
