On the 24th of July, 2024, the Indian Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) issued a release which stated that; playing sound recordings or musical works does not amount to infringement of copyrights. This is in a bid to resolve the debate between the registered Copyright societied in India and the provisions of the 1957 Copyright Act. This nullifies the demand copyright societies have that a license should be taken by the public or individuals who want to play musical works at weddings.
