Overcoming Referencing Challenges: My Journey I'll never forget the frustration I felt while working on my research project. Footnotes and citations were my biggest hurdles, especially since most of my sources were online. My lecturer's feedback was invaluable, but I struggled to get it right. That's why I was particularly excited about the Lawrit Journal of Law Legal Research and Writing Boot Camp session on Referencing styles and Citation. The speaker's expert guidance was a game-changer. My Struggle with Footnotes I recall spending hours formatting footnotes, only to have my lecturer point out errors. Website and blog citations were especially challenging. I wished I had a clearer understanding of NALT guidelines back then. Key Takeaways from the Session The speaker broke down referencing into manageable chunks. From the definition, to importance, referencing styles and most importantly the parameters to reference which actually was my most important take away. They include: Parameters to reference: - Author's name - Title of work - Website/journal name - Volume, edition, issue number - Translators/editors - Publishing details - URL link and access date She then gave general guidelines on citation styles. A Huge Relief Although my project is complete, this session clarified many concepts. I'm grateful for the speaker's expertise and simplicity. Thank you Opadokun Catherine, for sharing your knowledge. #LegalResearch #ReferencingStyles #Citation #WritingSkills #BootCamp #Learnings
