I enjoyed following the discussion of Piia Hyvämäki and the opponent Adjunct Professor Heljä Lundgrén-Laine in the doctoral thesis defence: Client and Patient Safety in the Exchange of Patient Information Between Healthcare Organizations. 👏🏻
What stood out for me in the research, was:
❄️ in order to ensure patient safety, the exchange of data needs to happen between the healthcare organizations (and in a secure manner),
❄️ machine learning driven clinical decision making tools can improve patient safety, and
❄️ taking a patient-centric approach is crucial in data-driven decision-making tools and as part of the care journeys.

Early-career female scientists frequently have to navigate graduate school, postdocs, tenure, and beyond while coping with unsupportive environments, bias, and life circumstances that may affect their professional path.
In the clip below, I share some highlights of my story as a female scientist.
Indeed, embarking on a PhD journey often begins with excitement, but many overlook the intense challenges it brings. Reflecting on my own experience, I’ve encountered countless obstacles, from social isolation and financial constraints to burnout. However, one of the key lessons I've learned from the McKinsey & Company Forward program is the importance of setting intentional goals for learning and growth. When you connect your work to something personally meaningful, it transforms the journey.
A few questions I now keep in mind:
.When things get hard, what keeps me motivated?
.What makes me feel fulfilled and proud?
In tough moments; like facing rejection from a critical project I’ve discovered techniques to stay grounded. For instance, the APR method (Awareness, Pause, Reframe) helps me step back, assess, and find a new perspective.
Another essential takeaway is the power of habit-building. Practicing a behavior for one to two months can turn it into a habit, but for it to last, you need a Habit Loop:
.Cue (What triggers the behavior)
.Routine (The action itself)
.Reward (The benefit you gain)
To maintain these positive habits, I:
.Track my reflections in a journal or document to see my progress.
.Share these reflections with a peer or mentor to stay accountable.
If you’re considering a PhD, remember:
The journey is tough, but your success ultimately depends on how you face these challenges, stay motivated, and apply strategies to keep moving forward. 💪
I empower students, researchers, and scholars for academic success. 🔬🔎

Inspired by Professor Arun Shukla's wisdom on perseverance in PhD, setbacks are part of our scientific journey. I've faced challenges recently, but with the support of my scientific community peers, I'm reminded of the importance of resilience.
Thank you, Professor, for your motivating words.
Let's continue to support and motivate each other as we navigate the challenges of research life.

If you are a PhD student, don’t let a failed experiment or a bad experience dampen your enthusiasm and motivation! There might be some hiccups in your journey but keep your dreams alive! If you are patient, dedicated, and determined, there is no hurdle that is insurmountable!
We asked the families of our brilliant graduates if they could explain their PhD to us... see how they got on!
Watch til the end for some wholesome answers 🥰💙

👀 I was on PHDwin Week yesterday to talk about the Planner and how it fits into the PHDwin ecosystem. It includes a sneak peek of Planner-PHDwin integration!
My session starts around 35 minutes into the stream. Check it out and let me know what you think!
