If you want to scale design, focus on consistently delivering high quality outcomes over rigid adherence to a process. Process may be necessary to drive consistency & expectations, but it shouldn’t be the end goal. There are many other factors that make a team effective: ✦ Building a culture and shared vision ✦ Defining standards and metrics ✦ Collaboration and comms ✦ Good onboarding ✦ etc etc It is a great way to give constructive constraints, especially for more junior designers But a process is only a means to deliver value It is not a guarantee for success. #Design

I agree that outcome-based design is effective in product design because it focuses on achieving measurable business or user results rather than following a fixed process. This approach allows teams to tailor their design efforts based on specific client goals and user needs, ensuring flexibility and alignment with strategic objectives. By continuously testing and iterating, design teams can refine solutions based on real-time feedback, ultimately creating products that deliver both user satisfaction and business success.

Laura Baker, yeah I believe there should be a base process which gives a good start and is like a north star for the team. But the whole thing must be agile. In any design work, there are tiny and big nuances in every phase. Being rigid with these phases don’t work.

I completely agree with this perspective! While processes are essential for creating structure and maintaining consistency, they should never overshadow the core objective that is delivering high-quality outcomes. Focusing on the bigger picture, like fostering a collaborative culture, aligning on shared goals, and constantly improving communication, is key to scaling design effectively.

While consistency is key, it's a two-sided effort. On one side, managers need to foster strong foundations like team collaboration, effective onboarding, and clear standards. With these basics in place, designers can consistently deliver high-quality outcomes
