I had ONE big problem applying to jobs Why I built getbackendjobs.com As the saying goes, looking for a job is a full-time job When searching for backend engineering roles, I had to visit and filter through over 50+ job boards and check out the jobs that matched my candidacy -I couldn't meet my daily application streak -More applications, higher chance, I couldn't apply to more -Visiting different sites & repeating the same procedure is hard -I was demotivated to continue How can I be a backend engineer when I can't even fix the problem on my front? So, I decided to fix the problem as a Backend Engineer. I created a BOT that scouts through 50+ job boards, filters through each job with my parameters, and emails me a list of these jobs every day before I wake up All I have to do is open my mail and APPLY This BOT helped me: -I saved time searching 50+ sites -I saved time filtering jobs -I got the exact job for me -I got many interviews & offers -I still use it for hunting Now, I have converted this bot to a website to help backend engineers find jobs easily. Everyone knows that the job market is challenging at the moment. Some candidates I've contacted are desperately looking for a job. Here is some information I've gathered that might be helpful! 👇 ✍ To secure a suitable job opportunity, you need to apply for positions that match your skill set. A recruiter or hiring manager will hardly consider you for a Frontend Developer role if your CV focuses mainly on backend development. It's similar to asking a software engineer to fix hardware issues— 2 very different jobs. Applying for the right role will save your time and increase your chances of getting the job as well as saving the recruiter or hiring manager's time. ✍ Make sure to review your CV before applying. I've encountered candidates with relevant skills who submitted outdated CVs. ✍ Also, ensure all your key skills are listed in your CV. Recruiters often search using specific keywords. Remember, we’re not superheroes who know everything. Like you, we learn when we work and sometimes I realize what I am looking for only after finishing a role. My Experience Interviewing for a Backend Developer Position Recently, I received an invitation to interview for a backend developer position at a large company. It was a great opportunity to talk with experienced professionals, discuss my skills, and learn more about the company. During the interview, I made a few important observations for myself: - At the moment, my priority is finding opportunities for professional growth within the company. - After working from home for a long time, I feel the desire to return to an office environment. - Even though I answered all the technical questions, I realized that I should explore databases and their structure more deeply. Although our paths with the company didn’t align, I’m satisfied with the outcome of the interview and the pleasant communication with wonderful people. It was a valuable experience that helped me better understand my priorities and direction for growth. I recently interviewed a young and successful Senior Frontend Developer. 💻 The day before our interview, he received an offer from a large international tech company. 🌍 He then asked how quickly our recruitment process could proceed. Although he wasn't satisfied with my response, that’s not the point of this post. I want to share a small secret on how software developers can get more offers, using a real-life example. 🔍 This is what his GitHub contributions look like. It’s not enough to be smart to be successful. 🧠 It’s not enough to work hard. 💪 Only a combination of working hard and working smart can lead to success. 🚀 As recruiters, we might not always understand the code and contributions you’ve made. Hello everyone! I'm looking for a job as a C++ programmer, B2B, as an individual entrepreneur in Batumi, Georgia (on-site or remote). But here's the deal... If you plan to have a technical interview with me, please note that I will not engage with junior developers or managers who did not have at least 10 years of direct experience with C or C++ and related technologies. For those who need to test "knowledge" of design patterns, bit fields, the difference between a class and a struct, etc., please direct these questions to recent graduates. These topics are of minimal relevance to my extensive experience. If you’re inclined to ask basic questions like "why use a virtual destructor," "differences between vector and list," "differences between UDP and TCP/IP," or "did you work with threads" just check my resume and consider my years of experience. Do you think I might not know the answers? It's important to note that I'm not familiar with every trendy technology or the latest ABCblablabla approach.   Questions such as "difference between static and dynamic memory," "how class templates work," "compiler optimizations," and "move semantics" should only be asked if you have a solid understanding of these topics yourself. And please, learn to formulate your questions clearly. A word of advice to mid/senior professionals: if you have five years of experience or are managers considering yourselves technical experts, I suggest lowering your bar a couple of notches. For those who think I am rude or have an inflated ego, don't worry, I am a kind and humble person in real life ;) Almost forgot, my English proficiency is at strong B1 level. If you expect higher, please look for another candidate. PS: A note to recruiters and HR. Do not ask young programmers to interview experienced veterans – there's a disconnect, and they tend to be intimidated by us (you can guess why).
