Technician recruiting is wild these days…. Used to it was good enough to promise loads of work, give a great pay plan, provide structure, and a good environment. Technicians would show up and show out! They felt appreciated because of all the above. It was a beautiful thing! Technicians understood it was a two way relationship of give and take on both sides. Now, it’s… “Give me all the money before I show you what I can do” “It better be a guarantee” “I want $25 more per hour than the market” “Don’t require me to hit a goal of any sort” “Don’t expect me to accept responsibility or respond well to accountability of any sort” “I’ll work on my terms, not in the best interest of the customer or the dealership” I know that technicians have not been favored well through the years but man, it sure makes it hard for us guys out there trying to do the right things. The industry has certainly complicated things when it comes to recruiting. “Love people more than you love cars” ASOTU | More Than Cars ✅ Hire Properly ✅ Train Passionately ✅ Lead Perpetually #servicemanagement #servicedepartment #leadservant #thisiswhatwedo #hireproperly #trainpassionately #leadperpetually #automotiveindustry #fixedops #thisishowwedoit #lovepeoplemore #guestexperience

Every time I speak in front of a group of students (which is almost daily!), I highlight one of the greatest (and consistently overlooked) reasons to pursue a career in the skilled trades: Unimaginable opportunities to work for a variety of people in a variety of settings at companies one would rarely associate with the trades. Here’s a prime example! 😀 At first glance, an Automotive Service Technician is a career in a repair shop or maybe a dealership. But would we ever make the jump to being employed by the Toronto Blue Jays?! ⚾️ The skilled trades are in demand like never before and the skilled trades can take you to unexpected and wonderful places. #skilledtrades #WomenInTrades #STEM #STEAM #WomenInSTEM #technician #automotive #Toronto #Ontario #BlueJays #MLB #careers #sports #baseball Skills Ontario Major League Baseball (MLB)

Typically, determining the right number of technicians to have in your shop is referred to as the “vehicle-to-technician ratio.” But a group of fleet managers agrees that only using the number of vehicles in the fleet to determine your technician needs won’t get you to the right number. What do you think? ➡ https://loom.ly/uHORGhw #technician #fleettechnician #vehicles

Technician Spotlight! Gordon M. 1. How did you get started in the industry? I was born into the industry as my dad is a mechanic. I have been doing this my entire life. 2. What do you like about MF or your shop? I like the team effort which is put into everything. The management cares about the employees and it feels like a company/team effort where everyone works together. 3. What advice do you have for a new employee? Be patient while learning the new systems, standards, and procedures to produce a really great repair. Be open to feedback and know that learning this industry takes time and effort. You become much more effective by listening, learning, maintaining an open-mind, and being open to feedback. 4. What do you wish others knew about what it’s like to be a technician? I wish people were more patient because doing a repair right the first time may take time. 5. What are your future goals? I plan on taking any training courses we offer and supporting the training of new technicians. I would love to build armor-proof vehicles.
