Being a part of Academy was a turning point for our company. You can find the terms and agenda on their website but here's what it did for Dalus. We were stuck in pivot hell when we started Academy. John and Tyler helped us find our balance between our expertise, values, and market opportunity. We went from building AI agents for consultants to solving one of the largest problems in robotics infrastructure. Sales for a pre-PMF startup are very different from enterprise SaaS sales motions. There's no MBA class, no youtube video, no blog that can really tell you how this works. Doug taught us exactly how to structure and measure our sales cycles that helped us onboard critical early partners. Unusual helped us cut through the noise on what matters to investors the most and hone our pitch. Dalus placed #1 on the Robotics Pitch Day organized by Spacecadet and Boost VC, who are now investors in Dalus as well. Our pre-seed round closed 2 weeks later. Unusual Ventures's Academy puts you in the front row seat with experts who have decades of experience in Venture Capital. It helped us go from nothing to credible design partners and a pre-seed round in 3 months. To quote John, "Anyone can dribble a ball, but what matters is if you can do it at an elite level" -- and that's exactly what Academy helped us do. Applications due Sep 9!
🚨 Exciting news to share that applications for the Unusual Ventures Academy next cohort are open for this Fall! As part of the Unusual Academy, you will: 1) Learn from world class leaders the best practices of building a company from product insight to product-market fit 2) Receive up to $2m in a SAFE to accelerate company building 3) Dive deep into the latest pricing, go-to-market, and infrastructure choices founders are making for their AI-native startups 4) Join a small group (10 teams!) of hand-picked founders who are eager to support and learn from you. We are inviting you to apply for our December 5-7 Redemptive Lab. We only have two spots available! We would like to introduce the Redemptive Frame, a way to think about living out your faith in your business life, and the Redemptive Lab, which is a 2 1/2-day no cost, curated event where like-minded founders, business owners and mentors explore what it looks like to build a redemptive venture. The Redemptive Lab experience is designed for a business owner’s specific needs and opportunities — generating experience-based insights and discussions about how to apply the Redemptive Frame to what we build, how we build, and why we build, sharing vision presentations, and getting 1:1 mentoring from experienced venture builders. After the Lab, founders will leave with fresh ideas, practical tools, new relationships, and critical feedback from peers and mentors. This experience is part of the mission of the North County Innovation Center to support and serve business owners as they seek to grow and build in faith. I have a meeting starting in 6 mins. It's the second day of this meeting schedule. Purpose - Focus work to solve a core problem in one of the startups. Goal - To set processes for a fast-scaling business. Method - Get on a one-on-one call to write down everything happening around it. (Basically - back to basics) Progress- Day 1 was really good, hoping to continue the streak 6 days a week. Learning - Reflecting on your work should be a regular practice. We will end up doing unproductive or time-consuming tasks from time to time in our career as individuals and as a company. It is important to evaluate the same from a top view and define what matters and what's at stake. See you. meeting in 4. Bye!
