We are excited to introduce our Oral Care Champion, Biji Sijo, Senior Care Assistant at Langdale House. We asked Biji three key questions: 1. How do you implement good oral hygiene practice with residents and staff? Natural teeth should be brushed twice daily, once in the morning and once before bed at night. 2. How do you encourage our residents to independently maintain good oral hygiene habits? Encouraging our residents to maintain good oral hygiene habits independently involves promoting a consistent brushing routine at least twice daily. We emphasise the importance of thorough and regular teeth cleaning, stressing the benefits of routine dental check-ups. Additionally, we advocate for increased water consumption, emphasise the need for regular toothbrush replacement, and strongly discourage smoking. Furthermore, we recommend using mouthwash as part of a comprehensive oral care routine. 3. What advice would you give to everyone on the importance of oral Hygiene? Remember to prioritise oral hygiene by brushing your teeth twice daily and cleaning between your teeth regularly using dental floss or a special brush. Biji, we appreciate your dedication to the well-being of our residents at Langdale House. Your commitment is truly commendable, and we are grateful for everything you do. #Champions #langdalecarehomesuk #WeCare #NursingHome #EverydayIsDifferent #CareGivers #DementiaCare #carehomesuk #ResidentialCareHome #DementiaFriendly #carehomeactivities #carehomeactivitiesmatter #socialcaresuccess

We are excited to introduce our Oral Care Champion, Sandra Santhosh, Senior Care Assistant at Everdale Grange We asked Sandra three key questions: 1. How do you implement good oral hygiene practice with residents and staff? Several ways to achieve this goal include education and training, developing routine oral care plans, providing supervision and monitoring, ensuring access to dental services, using proper equipment and supplies, encouraging and supporting healthy habits, and promoting a culture of good oral hygiene. By implementing these strategies, we help your residents and staff maintain healthy teeth and gums, prevent dental diseases, and improve their overall quality of life. 2. How do you encourage our residents to independently maintain good oral hygiene habits? Our approach includes education and demonstration, individualised support, consistent routine, use of adaptive devices, positive reinforcement, setting realistic goals, regular monitoring, and support. 3. What advice would you give to everyone on the importance of oral Hygiene? Maintaining good oral hygiene is essential to prevent dental issues, preserve teeth, and avoid pain and discomfort. Furthermore, oral health is closely linked to overall health, making it imperative to prioritise oral care. A healthy smile can also boost confidence and self-esteem, improving quality of life. Therefore, practising proper oral hygiene is crucial for physical and emotional well-being. Sandra, we appreciate your dedication to the well-being of our residents at Sutton In The Elms. Your commitment is truly commendable, and we are grateful for everything you do. #Champions #langdalecarehomesuk #WeCare #NursingHome #EverydayIsDifferent #CareGivers #DementiaCare #carehomesuk #ResidentialCareHome #DementiaFriendly #carehomeactivities #carehomeactivitiesmatter #socialcaresuccess #OralCare #MovingMoreForYourMentalHealth #EndTheStigma #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek #MentalHealth #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth2024 #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek2024

Did you know that tooth decay is the leading cause of NHS hospital admissions for children in England aged 5-17? With 40% of children no longer having regular dental appointments, it's more important than ever for parents to take proactive steps in maintaining their kids' oral health at home. Between April 2022 and May 2023, a staggering 30,000 children and over 70,000 adults were admitted to A&E with tooth decay. Let's work together to prevent this by following these simple yet effective tips: Brush Twice Daily: Ensure your child brushes their teeth for two minutes, twice a day, with fluoride toothpaste. Floss Regularly: Teach your kids to floss daily to remove plaque and food particles between teeth. Limit Sugary Snacks and Drinks: Opt for healthier snacks and encourage water or milk over sugary beverages. Regular Dental Check-ups: Even if appointments are hard to come by, keep trying to schedule regular check-ups. Educate on Oral Hygiene: Make oral health fun and educational. Use stories, songs, or apps to teach the importance of keeping teeth clean. Lead by Example: Show your kids how you take care of your teeth. Children are more likely to adopt good habits if they see you doing the same. Let's prioritize our children's oral health and help them maintain bright, healthy smiles. 🌟 #OralHealth #DentalCare #HealthyKids #NHS #ParentingTips #ChildrensHealth #ToothDecayPrevention

I am loving the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Brush, Book, Bed program!! 😁 📖 😴 The intent of this program is to promote oral health, early literacy, and healthy sleep habits. 🌟 The Brush, Book, Bed program highlights: ⭐ How to brush your child's teeth from newborn to age six (yes...I said newborn!!). 😁 ⭐ How to engage your child in reading so they enjoy it AND learn. 📚 ⭐ Sleep safety and the benefits of your child learning to fall asleep on their own. 💤 Establishing a healthy, consistent, predictable routine is one of the easiest ways to promote sleep at bedtime. If you haven't instituted a reliable bedtime routine in your home yet, DO IT!! You won't regret it. When did you introduce teeth brushing to the bedtime routine? What are your favorite bedtime books? #bedtimeroutine #healthysleephabits #oralhealth #oralcare #books #bedtime #bedtimestory #babysleep #babysleeptips #toddlersleep #routine #habits #consistencyiskey #consistencymatters #sleepconsultant
Oral health is an important part of children's overall health. AAP has resources and information to help pediatricians educate families about healthy routines, good oral hygiene, proper tooth development, and how fluoride protects teeth.
