Can't believe the Cyber Security Awareness Month is almost finished! Please have a look at all the awesome work our team in Downer is doing to protect our people. Those of you who follow my journey, know how much I talk about the human element of cyber. This is one of the main reason why I decided to study criminology along cyber security, because the two can't be separated. Humans are the first, the middle and the last layer of Cyber Security Defence, and they are the things we need to protect the most. I am very proud of our team recognising this challenge and continuously providing digital safety tools and awareness to keep everyone in Downer and their loved ones safe online. #downer #cybersecurity #cybersecurityawareness #humanelement #training #phishing
The safety of our people is our top priority at Downer – and this includes keeping our team safe and secure online. We’re committed to educating our people to be more resilient in an ever-changing digital landscape. During October’s Cyber Security Awareness Month, we’ve promoted the importance of digital security at Downer. We’ve run online sessions to showcase the Downer Digital cyber security team’s work behind the scenes, created cross-industry forums to share tips and advice, and launched new cyber security awareness training to our workforce. We frequently run phishing simulation campaigns to train our people to spot scams, which has resulted in a 50% reduction in our email phishing click-through-rate – a score now under the industry average. We’re also launching business unit specific training, covering the most prevalent and persistent risks, recognising Downer’s versatility of services and products. Downer’s ongoing commitment to cyber security is backed by our industry partners, including the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) and the Australian Information Security Association (AISA), so we are best equipped to protect the people of Downer. #CyberSecurityAwareness #TheDownerDifference

Cybersecurity Threats & Opportunities for the South West Region. Cybersecurity threats are becoming increasingly prevalent, and it's essential for business owners to be aware of the risks. I attended an insightful panel discussion organised by the Tech Industry Alliance at MTU this morning, highlighting the importance of cybersecurity for micro businesses to SMEs and above. It's no longer a matter of "if" a cyber attack will happen, but "when." Therefore, it's crucial to have a plan in place to deal with and recover from an attack. For many business owners, this can be a grey area, so it's essential to seek support from someone who specialises in reducing concerns about business continuity in the event of a cyber attack. If you're a business owner based in Cork and don't know where to start, I recommend reaching out to Richard Curran, owner of Sentinel Computers Ltd, for an initial conversation. #cybersecurity #cyberresilience #businesscontinuity #smallbusinessowner

National Cyber Security Awareness Month🛡️Tip #18: 'No single measure works 100% of the time – even if correctly implemented. Take a dynamic approach with defence in depth. Have individual security measures work together effectively and make up for each other’s weaknesses. ' – Adam Seamons, Information Security Manager at GRC International Group. By integrating various technologies and practices—such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and employee training—organisations can build a comprehensive defence that adapts to evolving threats. Embracing this holistic approach not only enhances overall security but also fosters resilience against potential breaches, ensuring that businesses are better prepared to respond to challenges in an increasingly complex digital landscape. As part of National Cyber Security Awareness Month, we're offering 15% off selected products and services to help you stay cyber secure.
