Tequila is still pulling in the cash for bar owners. Gin and Whiskey aren't far behind, with a touch of rum joining in. I still believe a large percentage of the profits are derived (in the on premise) in the cocktail segment, as opposed to beer and some entry level RTDS. I like the emergence of the espresso martini and mai tai. Cordials and flavored spirits are making a comeback. Beverage Solutions || Big Dog New York LLC You need to get in the agave space now. Today is National Cocktail Day celebrating all types of cocktails. Cocktails usually consist of a wine or distilled beverage - such as whiskey, brandy, vodka, rum, or tequila - mixed with ingredients such as soda, liqueurs, fruit, or juice. The word "cocktail" has been in print since at least 1803, but probably predates that. The word is possibly derived from the French word "coquetier," which means "egg cup." Egg cups held a concoction of bitters and brandy, and were served by Antoine Peychaud after he arrived in New Orleans in 1795. The word appeared in a Hudson, New York, newspaper - the Balance - in 1806. By about 1800, a mixture of various whiskeys was called a cocktail. A cocktail hour is a time during the late afternoon or early evening when people enjoy a cocktail before dinner. The term is thought to have originated in New York City during Prohibition. Celebrate the day by having a few cocktails. Try them shaken, stirred, on the rocks, or frozen. Drink responsibly. And don’t drink and drive. 𝙍𝙏𝘿 𝙘𝙤𝙘𝙠𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙡𝙨, 𝙧𝙪𝙢, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙚𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙖 𝙨𝙚𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙨 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙚𝙩: 😎 Ready-to-drink (RTD) cocktails, rum and tequila are set to dominate the spirits market, according to new research. A survey of founders of UK independent beverage companies, by rum brand The Duppy Share in collaboration with CGA by NIQ, showed RTD cocktails, in particular, have garnered attention, with 52% of respondents forecasting “fast growth”, the largest across all formats. In terms of spirits, rum and tequila are the only categories that experienced growth in 2023 and are forecast to continue their upward trajectory, according to the companies surveyed, particularly as consumer interest shifts away from gin, which experienced a 14% decrease in sales last year. However, mirroring the trend seen in the US, agave spirits continue to gain momentum. This category saw a 4% increase in sales in 2023. Looking ahead, agave spirits are expected to maintain a steady growth trajectory, with a projected annual growth rate of 2% from 2023 to 2028. This is reflected in rum, showing a 2% growth in 2023, and forecasting a steady growth in the coming years from its larger base volume. "Canned cocktails are far from a new phenomenon. One of the earliest "Commercial canned cocktails in America was Heublein's Club Cocktails, which hit the market in 1892, but even that wasn't actually a first. Bars were known to mix and bottle their house cocktails and sell them at retail along with other bottled liquors in the mid-1800s when regulations on the sale of liquor were looser, allowing guests to take their favourite beverages home with them from the bar." Fascinating. What are your favourite canned cocktails? https://lnkd.in/gF5GN_cp

According to CGA’s BeverageTrak service (NielsenIQ), cocktail sales surged by 6% in the last quarter of 2023, with Tequila emerging as the base spirit for over 1/3 of all sold cocktails. As a long-time devout Tequila drinker, I’m thrilled to see the masses coming to their senses! Tequila's dominance in the market grew, capturing a 34.1% share of cocktail base sales by value, surpassing vodka. The classic Margarita maintained its reign as the nation's favorite cocktail, while drinks like the Spritz, Negroni, and Espresso Martini gained traction. *Ever tried an Espresso Martini with a Tequila or Mezcal base? (Do it) Consumer insights will be a crucial function for #spirits brands/suppliers if they want to pivot appropriately and experience continued success in 2024. 🎉 It’s Vermouth Day! 🎉 It’s the day of the most important ingredient of Classic and Dry Martini. Yes, it’s the Vermouth Day. Mixologists celebrate this day on the 21st of March every year. For people who do not know Vermouth is a fortified wine or in layman's words a wine with liquor; added to stabilize the mixture. Vermouth sounds Italian and originated in Turin, Italy in the 1780s; however, the word is derived from the German word “Wermut” which is a herb used to give the bitter flavour to Vermouth. The Vermouth is not only a vital ingredient for Martini but for other cocktails as well. The sweet vermouth which is usually red in colour is mixed with other spirits and mixers to make Negroni, Americano, and Manhattan. The white and dry vermouth is used to create the finest cocktails: Classic Martini and Dirty Martini. Let’s Make a subtle and sweet Lilac Cocktail, with Dry Martini Vermouth for the perfect crisp tart flavour. Ingredients • Lilac Syrup • Dry (Extra Dry) Martini Vermouth • Crushed Ice • Lime juice + for garnish • A few blueberries, for garnish Method: Squeeze the lemon juice on a side plate. Then dip the glass into the lemon juice. Delicately shake the glass. Combine the lilac syrup, Dry Vermouth (Martini Vermouth), and lime juice in a shaker. Shake for about 30 seconds for all the ingredients to mix well. And do not hesitate to add more Vermouth. Now all you need is to strain the cocktail in a Coupe Glass. Optionally, set off with a few blueberries and lime slices. Cheers! 🍾
