Today March of Dimes released our 2024 Report Card, showcasing the state of mom and baby health in our country and in Texas. Since the initial release in 2008, one thing that has remained constant: an alarmingly high preterm birth rate. In Texas, 1 in 9 babies is born before 37 weeks gestation, and stark disparities exist between our Black and white babies. The US must prioritize the health of its moms and babies. We can change the tide of the maternal and infant health crisis by taking urgent action today to help ensure a healthy tomorrow for all families. We can all make a profound impact for today and future generations by investing in our communities, advocating for policy change, and raising funds for critical research and programs. We interrupt our regularly-scheduled DAF Day Campaign to take a good look at the performance data behind DAFs! This is a must-attend for fundraisers and data-driven impact leaders alike. We're talking to Pan-Mass Challenge about how they raised 3.5M in DAFs from 5,000 different donors using 100+ different DAFS. And we'll hear from the March of Dimes CFO on how they were able to study DAFpay data to find that 50% of their DAF gifts were from brand new donors! Gas-powered vehicles release a variety of pollutants into the cabin, including carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter. These harmful emissions can negatively impact the health and well-being of passengers, leading to discomfort and potential long-term health issues. In contrast, electric vehicles (EVs) do not have an internal combustion engine and thus produce zero tailpipe emissions, creating a cleaner and healthier environment for passengers. November 17th is World Prematurity Day, a time to raise awareness about the global challenge of preterm birth and to honor the tiny fighters born too soon. Each year, 15 million babies are born prematurely, facing immense hurdles from the moment they enter the world. These babies—and their families—rely on the support, resources, and research that organizations like the March of Dimes provide to ensure every child gets the best possible start in life. Cindy Rahman, MBA and the team at the March of Dimes have been a beacon of hope, leading the fight for the health of all moms and babies. From groundbreaking research to policy advocacy and community programs, their efforts have been pivotal in improving care for preemies and advancing treatments to reduce premature birth rates. University of Mary Washington's Beth Hunsinger describes why soliciting multi-year gifts from mid-level donors is not only a best fundraising practice, but also critical to growing the major gift pipeline: "We realized that we really had no place in the middle for folks who they gave at the $2,500 leadership level for annual giving. And then our major gift threshold is $25,000. And that's a big leap. So, we really wanted to focus on those mid-level donors as part of our multi-year pledge strategy, in order to develop the major gift donors of the future." Very proud that MacKillop Family Services's individual giving program was featured as a case study at Fi (Fiona) McPhee FFIA, FFINZ & The Benchmarking Project's FIA presentation "Donor retention insights from benchmarking high performers". This was 100% a team effort, each and every one of our team put their blood, sweat, and tears into making our donors feel loved and valued. My three top tips for great donor retention: 1. Never plan an ask without planning how you are going to thank 2. Hyper-personalise every touchpoint. Make your supporters feel like they are an old friend 3. Record EVERYTHING! The important stuff like contact details, communication preferences, and birthdays but also if they responded to an email, if they called to tell you about their day - record it and reference it.
