This is my desk. It may seem cluttered to you, but what I see… • The photos? My why. The reasons I keep working so hard. • The random golf ball, cherry and palm tree? Tokens and gifts that have a deeper meaning of encouragement. • The certificate? Not a brag or showcase of honor, but a constant reminder to lean into my strengths. • The excessive amount of magnets? A prank from teammates that keep me focused on the importance of building trust and having each other's back — while having some fun along the way • Game show name tag? A symbol of my first-year jitters, now a source of laughter and perspective. And the newest addition, my 5-year plaque at Black Hills Energy. The past five years have been a whirlwind of learning and growth. I've discovered strengths I never knew I had, tackled challenges that pushed me to new limits and built incredible relationships along the way. It's been just over a week since I had the rug pulled out from under me, when my position at Rockland Trust was eliminated. The first 24 hours were the toughest, I felt all the emotions. Confusion. Sadness. Anger. Disappointment. Despair. Failure. I thought about everything I didn't say after I heard "Unfortunately, today is your last day." Why me? Why isn't there a budget for my role anymore? What about everything I accomplished last year? How can you eliminate me when there is so much work to be done? Didn't the regulators just say that our team was "light"? Then once the dust had settled a little, and I had shared my initial post on my lay off, there was the outpouring of support from my network. I can't say how much that meant to me. Thank you to all of you who sent me notes, texted, or called. It did more than you know. Now here I am, hitting the metaphorical pavement. Looking for the next chapter in my career and reflecting on some of the things that this has taught me, such as: - Do not under estimate the power of your network and the relationships you build throughout your career - There will always be "what ifs". Don't dwell on them too much, its not worth your mental health - Being laid off is not something to be ashamed of, it had nothing to do with you And I think most importantly - Things happen, its how you respond to them that matters most

Exciting News to Share! After a 2.5-year career gap, during which I embraced the role of a stay-at-home parent to my two wonderful kids, I am stepping back into the professional world as a Research Scientist at University of Pittsburgh.   The Struggle Was Real: Two kids, no family/support nearby, visa issues, no work permit and a career gap. I felt like I was juggling flaming torches! But guess what? I didn’t drop a single one. I learned to multitask like a pro. This career pause has been helpful to focus on personal development and cultivate new skills and interests. Above all, it afforded me the cherished time to nurture my children during their crucial early stages. I’ll cherish the memories of giggles, the tiny hand holding mine, and the sweet chaos of playtime. These moments are irreplaceable, and they’ve shaped me into who I am today. I’m eager to bring the patience, creativity, and problem-solving skills honed during this time to my new role. Gratitude: To my mentors, friends, and fellow scientists—thank you for believing in me. To my family, your love sustained me. Here’s to new beginnings, challenges, scientific discoveries, and the wonderful balancing act of career and family life. Let the adventure begin…. The Message: To all the Moms out there: You are enough. Your career dreams matter. Your strength is unmatched.

I love this reel by @newhappyco! There are so many facets of who you are. And not only that, those facets grow, change, and evolve throughout your life. That means that what felt exciting, challenging, and fulfilling at 25 or 35 is not likely going to be the same things that excite and inspire you at 45 or 55. So why do we expect that we should stay in the same career for decades? This is really an outdated idea that many of us Gen X’ers were raised with but we need to start challenging. Imagine how it would feel to fully embrace the fact that you get to grow, learn, and evolve personally and in your career. And not only that you get to, that you should! How freeing does that feel!? So if you are in a place where you are resisting the feelings of monotony and stagnation that are happening in your career, how about you say “yes” to them instead?
