Today, the competitiveness of organizations relies on their speed to innovate. As software development has become a cornerstone for innovation, the productivity of DevOps teams becomes critical to staying competitive in an ever-evolving market. Discover in our upcoming webinar, 'Building High Performance Teams', how to transform your team dynamics and boost their productivity to achieve success in an innovation-driven world. And here's an additional secret 😉! The webinar will be led by my colleague David Zamorano Jimenez. As a technology leader, letting go of the code is easier said than done. 🧑💻 Sometimes, it takes a very intentional effort to take off that 'developer' hat in the workplace. For Sebastian, this included simply not setting up the local environment on his new computer. Unconventional? Yes. Effective? Also yes. Be sure to check out the rest of Sebastian's thoughts on today's new episode of Open Source CXO! 🎙️ #LetsTalkTech #LeadershipDevelopment #TechLeader

🌶 🌶 🌶 I erred on the side of a radical answer while on the podcast. Here's why... Moving from coding to leading can be tough, especially when you love to code. It's easy to be tempted to jump back into the codebase. When senior managers step in to fix something that was given to the dev team, it can come off like you don’t trust them to handle it. Even if you mean well, it can feel like you’re doubting their skills. There’s a real art to stepping back and creating space for your organization to grow. When I stopped coding, it opened up opportunities for our developers to take on more responsibility and shine. In my org, we push out updates at least once a day, sometimes more, with tens of thousands of changes each week. My contributions would probably be riskier than those of anyone on the dev teams. But Cbass, how can I be in engineering management and keep my dev skills relevant? -> Build proof-of-concepts that never make it to production. Have side projects, take courses, learn OUTSIDE the codebase your customers rely on. Your job as a leader is to create an environment where your team can succeed. Set the challenges, trust them to handle it, and give them the freedom to solve problems creatively. They’ll appreciate the trust and grow from the experience. #engineeringleadership #management #software #founders #startup #kansascity #tech #advice #people #culture

I really enjoyed this follow-up chat from #CTOCraftCon by amazing people Laura Tacho and Crystal Hirschorn 👏 . The key takeaways and shared wisdom: * Leverage commodity where exists - build vs. buy; try to be aware of sunken cost fallacy! * Avoid complete rebuilds - there are a lot of false promises out there 😉 https://lnkd.in/euTnE39g Working with different clients this comes across quite often and something I usually talk about as well. As engineers it's very easy to fall into one or more of those traps when thinking about our software or products and forget it's not always about the next shiny thing and what problem are we really solving! #engineering #leadership

Head of developer relations at Retool
2moWas just recently talking about how developer relations is more of a system than a team and with a system... the purpose of the system is what it does -- including the side effects, maybe even mostly the side effects. When you recognize this you start making project work systems work... you can use it to meet a few metrics you're after sure but most of the true value is in the immeasurable side effects that are just as much a purpose of the system as the things done with intent.
