This is a fantastic article by fellow DEI practitioner and friend, Kimberly Hulsey, J.D., who does a wonderful job outlining the importance of DEI work. The whole piece is excellent, but I find the following quotation particularly meaningful: "A recent analysis by Bloomberg showed that there are 41 women CEOs at S&P 500 companies, setting a new record. Of the top Fortune 500 CEOs, four are Black people (one Black woman) and only two Hispanic women have served in the role. Do women not ascend to these roles because they lack the skill, ability, or experience? Of course not. No one believes that one’s gender alone makes one more or less able to handle leadership at the highest levels. Diversity leaders know—and can help others see—that talent is equally distributed while opportunities are not. Initiatives led by DEI and other professionals examine current structures, quantify barriers that might inadvertently diminish or slow the advancement of those in the talent pool, and devise solutions that advance the opportunity for everyone's success."
