Reflecting on my recent internship at a BBA program—Entrepreneurship and Team Leadership, part of TAMK's ProAkatemia, has been an incredible journey of growth and learning. As an Assistant Coach, my role was to help international Pingsters (freshmen) adapt to ProAkatemia's unique, project-based learning environment in Tampere, Finland. Many of them were unfamiliar with this non-traditional approach, which focuses on completing real business projects rather than attending lectures. My task was to guide them through this transition and help them complete their 1. Sprint—a two-month challenge to solve a real business problem. One of the biggest challenges was that I was also new to ProAkatemia's approach. I had to learn quickly while simultaneously coaching the students. This required understanding the project goals, the coaching-centered methodology, and effectively communicating that knowledge to the Pringsters. Empathy was key—I needed to see the learning process from their perspective while also providing the guidance they needed. A particularly rewarding moment was when Pringsters approached me for help with internal team communication issues. I collaborated with more experienced coaches to establish open communication channels and provided follow-up support. While the issue isn't fully resolved, we have made significant progress through open dialogue and perspective shifts. To reflect on my learning experience, I used the Motorola reflection model to analyze my growth. I'm especially grateful to the coaches and leaders who supported me, helping me adjust to the ProAkatemia environment. At the Senior Talk Main Event III Digivolution 2024, three insightful sessions were delivered, providing valuable guidance for students about internships, international programs, and fast-track studies. Kang Nathan: Internships and Life After Campus Kang Nathan, with his strong background in creative design, from creative designer to marketing graphic designer, shared practical advice for students on how to effectively utilize their time from semesters 1 to 6. He emphasized the importance of actively participating in organizations, committees, and other activities to build a solid portfolio. He also provided insights on various internship programs, such as MSIB, Telkom Indonesia, LinkedIn, and Magang Generasi Bertalenta. Additionally, Kang Nathan highlighted the significance of cultivating a Growth Mindset and recommended creating a Database of Experience that includes academic tasks, organizational involvement, committee work, and internships. Kang Naufal: IISMA Program and International Experience In the second session, Kang Naufal discussed the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA), part of the Kampus Merdeka initiative, which offers Indonesian students the opportunity to study abroad. He emphasized the importance of preparing key documents, including essays, recommendation letters, English proficiency scores, etc. Sharing his experience of studying at the University of Padua, Italy, he encouraged students to prepare and ensure all requirements meticulously are met. Teh Intan: Fast Track in Management Science Teh Intan wrapped up the event by introducing the Fast Track Program in Management Science, which allows students to complete their bachelor's and master's degrees more quickly. She outlined the benefits, such as reduced educational costs, faster career progression, involvement in larger research projects, and deeper knowledge of management. However, she noted that strict requirements must be met, including a minimum GPA of 3.51 over six semesters and an IELTS score of at least 4.5. She advised students to proactively seek information, plan their studies carefully, and prepare well in advance for the necessary documentation and approvals. These sessions provided a roadmap for students to successfully navigate internships, international opportunities, and accelerated study programs, reinforcing the importance of early preparation and a proactive approach. I’d like to share just 3 with you even though I could go on and on about it—networking, adaptability, and communication skills. Networking: Building Connections That Matter Networking opened doors I never imagined – from forming lasting friendships to connecting with inspiring professors, guest speakers, and entrepreneurs. I’ve learned the power of genuine connections and how they come in handy more than one realises. My internship took networking global, teaching me about international business and cross-cultural relationships as well. Adaptability: Thriving in New Environments Adaptability became my superpower. Balancing college life was challenging, but my internship in Poland pushed me further. Working at the University of Wroclaw taught me to thrive in new cultures and overcome language barriers. I learned that adaptability isn’t just about surviving change—it’s about finding opportunities in the unknown. Communication: Breaking Barriers Communication skills were my biggest growth area. Initially intimidated by presentations and group projects, I now see them as valuable learning experiences. Our professors constantly encouraged us to step up, whether hosting events or presenting to the class. These challenges helped me find my voice and convey ideas with clarity and confidence. “Nothing worthwhile comes easy”, and I’ve embraced this truth throughout my journey at SP Jain Global. Both in and out of the classroom, I’ve learned that real growth lies in stepping into the unknown, forging genuine connections, and finding my authentic voice. Internships with Kang Nathan: Kang Nathan, a Digital Business alumnus, shared his experiences from internships at well-known companies like Kumparan and Telkom. He offered practical advice for students aiming to succeed in their careers, emphasizing the importance of: - Cultivating a positive mindset - Keeping a record of experiences - Tailoring resumes to specific roles - Building a strong portfolio - Practicing interview skills - Being open to feedback 2. IISMA Insights from Kang Naufal: Kang Naufal recounted his journey at the University of Padua, Italy, through the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) program.
