As I approach my 5-year work anniversary at Walmart, (08/13/24) I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey I’ve had. This milestone is not just a marker of time; it represents personal & professional growth. As I reflect on this journey, I am filled with gratitude for the experiences that have shaped me into who I am today. This post is not just a celebration of time spent but a tribute to the growth, lessons learned, & the strength I’ve gained along the way. Five years ago, I walked through the doors of Walmart as a New associate, eager to learn & contribute. Little did I know that this journey would be filled with challenges that would test my resilience & character. Throughout these years, I’ve faced various situations—some rewarding & others quite difficult. However, each experience has been an opportunity for growth. Through every trial, I learned to stay strong & committed to my values.The struggles I encountered became stepping stones rather than stumbling blocks. They pushed me to dig deep within myself and discover strengths I never knew existed. This journey has not only made me a better employee but also a better person.I’ve learned that perseverance is key. There were times when I felt overwhelmed or underappreciated, but instead of letting those feelings consume me, I chose to focus on what I could control: my attitude & my work ethic. This mindset has not only helped me navigate tough situations but has also allowed me to emerge stronger and more determined. One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is the importance of empathy. Understanding that everyone has their struggles has made me more compassionate towards my colleagues and customers alike. This empathy drives me to support others who may be going through similar challenges. In an environment where opinions can vary widely, staying true to my values has been crucial. I’ve encountered individuals who stood up for what was right, even when it was unpopular or criticized. Their courage inspired me to be a better me & to advocate for others who may be struggling &feel overwhelmed. Help advocate fairness and kindness in every interaction.Throughout this journey, I’ve been fortunate with a few remarkable individuals who have remained genuine & supportive despite the ups & downs. These relationships have been invaluable beyond measure; they remind me that there are people who care deeply about doing what’s right. Each challenge has equipped me with tools to help others facing similar struggles—whether it’s offering guidance or simply being a listening ear. As I celebrate this milestone, I am filled with hope for what lies ahead. My goal is not just personal growth but also helping others thrive in their. I pray that I continue learning and evolving into the best version of myself while uplifting those around me in their own journeys as well. Here’s to many more years of growth, resilience, and making a positive impact together.

🌟 A Major Career Milestone! 🌟 I’m excited and beyond grateful to announce that I’ve joined Walmart Canada as a Direct Receiver! This marks a significant achievement in my career journey, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to take this next step. After moving to Canada and facing several challenges over the past six months in my job search, it’s incredibly rewarding to have landed this role. The transition to a new country brought its own set of hurdles, but persistence, patience, and a lot of hard work have paid off. This experience has taught me the importance of resilience, adaptability, and staying committed to your goals, even when the road gets tough. One year ago, I found myself wandering the aisles of Walmart, still in shock after being laid off from a company I had dedicated over 27 years of my life. I was unsure of what to do next, overwhelmed by the abrupt change. As I reflect on this past year, I can’t help but think of that old ad slogan, "You've come a long way, baby!" That sentiment rings true now more than ever. Thankfully, I had already begun working on my mindset before the layoff, and that foundation helped me navigate the tough times and amplify my resilience after receiving the news. Today, I’m in a place I once could only dream of—a place of empowerment, growth, and opportunity. I’ve rebuilt my career on my own terms and embraced my passion for helping others through their transitions. If you're facing uncertainty, know that while it may feel overwhelming right now, the path ahead might lead you to places you never imagined. Today marks my last day at Walgreens. The last few years have been the most important and impactful of my career. I have grown and learned so much. Today, someone asked me about work and asked if the job change made me happy. I looked the asker in the face and blankly said, “honestly, I don’t know.” You see, early in my career at Walmart, I was a single mom with full financial responsibility for my two amazing daughters. I was determined to find a way to give my ladybugs the freedom to take advantage of any of the amazing opportunities our community offers to kiddos. But that meant I needed to learn how to advance and excel at work so I could make more money. I quickly learned the behaviors Walmart appreciated in its Associates and began mastering each (as if my life depended on it) which led to 5 promotions in 6 years. I was proud of what I was able to do in my career and for my kiddos. What I didn’t realize is that my approach and my hustle had led to Assimilation. “Assimilation is the process through which individuals or groups adopt the cultural norms, values, and behaviors of another group, often leading to the gradual loss of their original cultural identity.” The realization about knocked me over when I finally realized that my identity (safety, friendship, love, belonging, esteem, and potential) were all tied up in Walmart. The sad and scary truth was, I had no idea who I was without Fortune One. So, I held my breath, closed my eyes and courageously quit my job and found a new one the same day. I spend a lot of time uncomfortable now, because I’m figuring out who I am as “Mariah Freaking Newman” and I don’t have Walmart or Walmart expectations to hide behind. I've never posted... so here goes. Don't believe the hype you see about FedEx and the entire company as a whole. It's downsizing they fired 14,000+ employees, yes i was one of them, all in 2 days. Yup you read that correctly.  My opportunity was cut short and cut throat. No explanation, no nothing. Dead serious no explanation. Talk about shadyness.... I'm too old to be dealing with companies that are shady and don't function properly. Who have individuals in management that clearly don't belong. Corporate isnt corporate. Everyone has their own Ceo... like what???? Next: Management wonders why employees don't stay. Have they looked in the mirror and noticed , it's because of them. The poor communication; wrong decision making; conflicting directions; misinformation; lack of promotional support; lack of training, I mean really I can go on and on. But the fact that I wake up everyday is a blessing. The fact that I can do me regardless of what my last job did to me and be positive is... I'm greatly grateful for everyday. Period.

Today marks my 7th work anniversary with Lowe's India 🥳❣ 🎊 It's been a long journey since I stepped into the Lowes 7 years ago, armed only with my goals and dreams! Over the years, I have not only discovered what I love to do, but also who I am in the process. I have been fortunate enough to work with some of the greatest minds in the industry as my mentors, leaders, and colleagues. On this day, I want to share my 7 valuable learnings that one should always keep in mind to grow professionally: 1. Grow with Others – Your job is not about competition, where you compete with your colleagues, one should learn and grow with them. 2. Win as a Team – While personal growth is important, lone warriors cannot succeed in a war. Win together! 3. Continuous Learning is a Key with new technologies emerging constantly. Make continuous learning a habit to stay up-to-date. 4. Adaptability – Change is the only constant! Unleash your Passion – Try to be passionate about the work you do and the work you want to do. Figure out your passion early and take a step towards it, no matter how small it may be!
