DAY 43: CRAFTING GREAT STORIES & WRITING USER SCENARIOS I’m not sure if this is true but this paragraph started with “Fortunately, good stories aren’t hard to write!”. Key learnings: - All stories have a similar structure: Setup - Action - Result - The challenge is in the execution! As you write the story, include the relevant details to help a reader imagine the situation you’re describing, but just like when writing personas, you don’t need to include every possible detail. - Write your stories so that if a customer in your target persona were to read it, she’d go, “I’ve been in that situation before, and this product sounds fantastic!” - Your customers likely don’t know your jargon, so avoid using it as much as possible. NOTE: Like product management, crafting great stories is easy to learn but can take a lifetime to master. Keep using stories for your PRDs, presentationsand more, and you’ll become a better and better storyteller. - In a PRD, you’ll likely write multiple user scenarios covering different personas and their use cases. - Your MVP definition will help you figure out the most important stories to write and what features to focus on in those stories. NB: Everything in your MVP list should be in the user scenarios, but not every feature called out in the user scenarios will be part of the MVP. - When writing user scenarios it is important to keep this 3 tips in mind: 1. Provide the relevant details. 2. Ensure the story you’re writing is authentic. 3. Do not define in too much detail or be too prescriptive about what the solution entails. NOTE: As a PM you should leave the PRD focused on goals and requirements rather than specific solutions to a problem. Design and Engineering will figure out the right solution to help the customer achieve his/her goals and to meet your requirements. #productmanager #productdevelopment #day43ofbecomingagreatPM #theproductbook

1. For early stage startups, TPM and Platform PM is more suitable for the job. 2. Once the MVP passed, UI/UX PM can come in. 3. When your product is already hit the PMF and start growing, the other types of PM can kick in to ensure the product scalability and realibilty is handled well. #productmanagement #productdevelopment #productmanager

Something that I see often during Product Driven Transformations is the broad application of “Product Management”. There are some major differences that may play to different strengths of a person and depending on the needs of the company, should be thought through in the trnasformation process.

After my previous post on writing user stories as a superpower for a PM, I have received lots of DMs mentioning this is not "strategic" enough to be labelled as a superpower. Honestly, a big part of product success requires disambiguating high level goals to working product. Somewhere, in the quest of strategy and product discovery, the good old grind of working on the details is getting lost. Its core part of product management and will never be out of fashion! #productmanagement #gettinginthedetails #keepshipping
