The Small Business Summit yesterday was an inspiring event that truly showcased The City of Glendales commitment to supporting small businesses. Did you know that Canada celebrates Small Business Week in October? The Bay of Quinte (BOQ) communities come together to plan a full week of events each year. This is an excellent opportunity for entrepreneurs and folks supporting entrepreneurs to gather, network, and learn from each other. While my business has become too busy for me to attend as many events as I used to when I started out more than a decade ago, I still set aside time to attend events during Small Business Week. If you're in the Bay of Quinte region, I invite you to check out the website linked to this post, and register for the events that resonate with you. As a minimum I plan to attend the Social Mix & Mingle in Brighton, the Enhancing HR Effectiveness: A Collaborative Approach to Key Challenges, and Uplifting Women, Empowering Each Other sessions in Quinte West. I'd also like to make it to the Mega Mingle at Loyalist College, because I love to network! How to support Small Businesses , Pro tip's: 1) Shop Local: This week try to choose local options, explore businesses you may have never experienced in your community! 2)Spread the word: Share your experience on social media or word of mouth, referring new customers is the best form of recognition when it comes to businesses! 3) Leave reviews: Good reviews can significantly boost a small businesses reputation, creating some well deserved buzz and helping drive new customers in the doors! 4)Engage online: Follow, like and share local small businesses posts on social media to help them grow (fun fact- you would not believe that advertising is one of the biggest obstacles in expenses for new/ small or emerging businesses, your shares , likes and follows are a great way to help them grow!) 5) Participate in events: Attend local events, markets, and fairs to support small business enders. Its finally good weather season, get out there and experience and old fashion street market, you might just find something you LOVE! Its time to share some local love, help promote amazing local business across Prairies Canada!
