Ghosting: Why do we get ghosted by people in our own organisations more than we do by external partners? Is it because there is less likely to be a commercial consequence? Is it because we’re asking people to do things they don’t want to do? Or asking questions people don’t have the answers for? Is it because internal partners/colleagues are not as valued as clients or key supply chain partners? Or is it cultural? Whatever it is, it needs to change. We need to treat each other like clients, with the appropriate deference and respect due. If we’re working together, we should be working together. And as such respect each other’s priorities and goals as we do those of our clients. Let’s stop ignoring each other, saying ‘we’re too busy’ or deprioritising each other’s interests and start engaging, start supporting and seeing each others worth. "Words often mislead, but actions nary do." I use that phrase as guidance when helping reps forecast their business or performing my own. Most humans avoid conflict at all costs and cannot or will not answer tough or direct questions when important tasks will be completed such as a key step for a deal to be signed. I find it more helpful to read others' actions or inaction more than their words/excuses, especially over time. This holds true from understanding your business (revenue) all the way to nearly all human interactions. Don't get fooled by assurances, flattery, and empty promises. I'd rather put stock in someone's activity level to drive forward, their thoughtful inquires that signal the outcome you mutually want, and their behavior or actions that demonstrate they too are working towards the common goal you seek.
