Here is my breakdown of what makes the 26 sec interaction special. 1. Kates Body language - lean in. Show that the person really matters and you have full attention on them. 2. Kates Calm and composed voice. 3. Kate paints a vivid emotionally strong positive outcome.- "Its going to be the most Amazing interview ever". 4. After addressing emotion, Kate then bring attention to the logical part of the person with reasoning. - "You know Why?" 5. Kate uses the magic word - "Because -" 6. Kate shows you dont have to do it all alone. "Because *WE* have decided it to be." 7. Kate then shows I am your ally. "You can ask me anything. Everything is going to be amazing." 8. Kate shows trust in the persons ability. "You got this." I would do one small thing differently though.. 1. "You don't have to be scared." - Human mind is not good at negating negatives. The reporters mind will likely focus on the word "scared" even though the message is don't be scared. I would rather say for example, "Tell me the last time when you were super confident. When you chose to be confident." I have seen this puts the person immediately in confident state.

Kate Winslet, in this interaction role models how to be a leader. Watch her magic as she paused an interview to encourage a shy/nervous reporter doing her first interview. I am sharing this because, 1. I wish more leaders would do this. 2. A great way to become excellent is to breakdown/reverse engineer excellence in action. What all do you notice when you reverse engineer this interaction? I will reply with my breakdown of this tomorrow. The quality of your thinking = the quality of the ideas you consume. I keep sharing no-fluff career and startup growth ideas everyday. Follow along.
