We had our Early-Mid Career mastermind group this week. It was so much fun meeting the future of our industry (if we can keep them in it). It is pretty clear to me that the alphabet soup of industry organizations are struggling to engage in a meaningful way with the “younger” population of the AEC industry. Companies are doing a great job at developing their early-mid career on the traditional path. They struggle with professionals that want to learn about things that are not on the traditional path. My ask. If you are an Executive at an AEC firm or an alphabet soup professional organization, ping me and I can share about how we are partnering. This program is special. I am personally involved, because it’s very important to me. As a second generation civil engineer, the father of a mechanical engineer and a soon to graduate industrial engineer, this is personal. Our industry is the most important industry in the world. We shape society and the planet. We tackle the worlds greatest challenges. We must attract the best talent and keep them engaged.

As early career engineers embark on their engineering career journey, there are many opportunities to pick up knowledge to contribute and perhaps eventually lead. Aside technical knowledge, two most important knowledge are operations and financial knowledge. These 3 knowledge are key to safety, quality and sustainability of businesses. I encourage early engineers, do find time to pick up these knowledge as you contribute in your role and work!

𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗹 You don’t need to have your entire career mapped out from day one. After speaking with countless engineers over the last couple of years, here’s what stands out: • Focus on where you are now: Nail your current role, and opportunities will follow. Doing great work opens doors—simple as that. • Get your hands dirty early: Maintenance, operations—whatever it is, that practical experience is gold later in your career. And trust me, it only gets harder to pick up as you progress. • Don’t stress about the perfect path: Careers are rarely a straight line. Be open to surprises—sometimes the best opportunities are the ones you didn’t see coming. • The railway gives back: If you look after it, it’ll look after you. As a young engineer, focus on learning, delivering results, and building a solid reputation. The rest? It tends to sort itself out. Where did your rail career begin? Share your story!

🚀 Job rotation at MARTIN: a success story by Manuel Rasch 🚀 Manuel Rasch has been a valuable member of our MARTIN team since 2018. In his role as a project manager for the modernization department, he successfully implemented numerous projects. However, in 2023, an exciting new challenge presented itself: the chance to delve deeper into boiler engineering and to strengthen our modernization and service department in this field. In the context of rotating his job, Manuel gathered experience on an international level. He spent seven weeks in the Swiss town of Matzingen, where he benefited from the outstanding service organization and our colleagues' know-how. Moreover, he could expand his engineering knowledge during a two-week deployment in the Czech Republic. His next destination? Soon, he will spend some time in Portugal! Manuel's key insights: 1. Switzerland's excellent service organization 2. The importance of being close to the customers 3. Hands-on experience is frequently more valuable than mere theory Our Swiss colleagues could also benefit from Manuel's expertise and gain valuable insight. His ambition? He would like to further expand his newly acquired knowledge, apply it actively and share it with other MARTINIs. In particular the exchange with the Swiss team of Martin AG für Umwelt- und Energietechnik provided Manual with important insights. Getting to know and understanding each other's method of working and also knowing the direct, local contact persons ultimately contribute to better and more intensive cooperation. An especially nice highlight of this job rotation for Manual was the opportunity to also have his young family with him at times. This family-friendly aspect meant that he could combine career and family in an ideal manner. At MARTIN, we not only offer exciting challenges and international prospects, but also the flexibility required to balance work and private life. 🌍💼 Become a member of our team yourself and experience how we grow together! #JobRotation #Familyfriendly #Career
