Can't resist sharing this exchange, with two very smart marketing people from the AEC space Scott Butcher (whose insights into seller-doers in AEC) and Perryn Olsen: Tom H: "The ultimate question remains then: what is the critical role of marketing in an industry driven by seller-doers? Reputation and status enhancement are high on my list, but I would love to hear other’s thoughts." Perryn Olson: "Tom Hale marketing leads the way and guides the seller-doers because selling isn’t their specialty, it is the voice of the brand, provides support materials for the seller-doers to enhance their relationships (thought leadership, brochures, tradeshows, etc). While seller-doers focus on individual relationships, marketing ensures those individuals clients and prospects also have a relationship with the company." Tom H: "Great insights Perryn. The way Gabe Lett put it was that marketing "positions" the company and brand for success. Individual seller-doers work grassroots, but marketing positions the entire company (and in addition makes the brand evergreen). Great convo, thanks Scott Butcher."

These last two days have fed my soul. I've sat down with two clients and prepared a six month marketing plan for them. Here's how that looks 📢 Specific dates on the calendar 📢 Launches 📢 Public Relations 📢 Speaking events 📢 Networking 📢 Book launches 📢 Workshops and retreats My clients are absolutely lit up and can't wait to be marketing their business both on and offline. They are making connections daily and guess what happens when they do this? They grow their business and people pay attention to what they have to say. IF PEOPLE DON'T KNOW WHO YOU ARE THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT WHAT YOU'RE SELLING! Let that sink in because it's crucial to you growing your business. It's also a great way of doing marketing. The client I spoke to today I told her this "Look at your marketing but also think how do I want to feel?" If you don't feel good about doing your marketing potential clients will feel this. Marketing's job is NOT to generate leads and manage trade shows! If that's all you've tasked your marketing team to do, you are missing out on the opportunity to speak to your market. As it turns out, the majority of your market isn't ready to buy (yet). Yes, they may be online, or at a trade show, but that doesn't mean that they want to buy. Therefore, we need marketing to be more focused on telling your story to create BELIEF, not immediate buyers.
