10 Things I Wish I Knew Before Launching My Startup 1. Dreams Are Heavy I thought dreams floated, like clouds kissed by sunlight. But they carry the weight of sleepless nights, Of decisions that gnaw at the soul. Each step is a gamble, a balancing act, Where courage and doubt entwine in a fragile dance. 2. The World Won’t Wait The marketplace is a storm, A tempest that never stills. You must sail with urgency, But beware—rushing blinds you to the rocks. Timing is everything, yet time waits for no one. 3. Your Idea Is Just the Start A spark of brilliance can ignite a fire, But without fuel, it falters. An idea must evolve, Sharpened by criticism, Forged in the furnace of reality. 4. Failure Is a Faithful Teacher Each stumble is a whisper of wisdom, Every failure a lesson in disguise. Yet, it stings. No book, no mentor, can prepare you for the ache Of watching your efforts fall short. 5. Loneliness Is a Shadow Surrounded by people, yet often alone. The founder’s journey is a solitary one, Filled with secrets you dare not share. Your worries, your fears—they live in silence, Hiding beneath the mask of confidence. 6. Teamwork Is Fragile I dreamed of a tribe, United, unstoppable. But people are complex, Dreams diverge, loyalties waver. Building a team is an art, A test of trust and understanding. 7. Money Changes Everything I thought funding would free me, But it came with strings I could not see. Investors demand, customers expect, And the simplicity of passion Becomes entangled in profit. 8. The Hustle Has a Cost They glorify the grind, The relentless pursuit of success. But no one tells you How the hustle steals your health, How it demands sacrifices you never agreed to make. 9. The Metrics of the Heart Not all success is measured in numbers. Revenue and reach are cold comforts When your purpose feels distant. Chase the goals that matter to your soul, Even when the world says otherwise. 10. You Are Stronger Than You Know The moments I wanted to quit Outnumber the stars. But resilience is born of struggle, And strength grows in silence. You will surprise yourself— Again and again, you will rise. Starting a business is like crafting a poem, Messy, unpredictable, beautiful in its chaos. Would I do it again? Without hesitation. For every heartache taught me, And every triumph changed me.

What Really Motivates a Founder? 💡 When I first entered the startup world, my motivation was simple: how often does a stranger offer you $100K to take a shot at your dream? That excitement fueled me in the early days. Then, when the rejections piled up—countless “no’s” from VCs, and even my ex-girlfriend’s dad telling me, “Your business will never be successful and neither will you”— my motivation turned to spite to prove people wrong. When I raised my first round, everything changed. Suddenly, my “why” became about making my investors proud—a responsibility I still carry today. Later, as the company grew, I found a new driver: giving back to my parents. At 36, I was able to buy them a home, which meant more to me than words can express. But at 38, leading one of the largest and fastest-growing online tire retailers, my motivations have evolved yet again. One thing I’ve learned: financial success can’t be the only motivation. It will burn you out, or you’ll achieve it and wonder, What’s next? For me, there's another factor beyond money. It’s about the impact TireAgent can make. Recently, I learned that a village belonging to someone I know was devastated by a typhoon—no drinkable water, no food. Without hesitation, I thought: I have to help. A quick call to an old fraternity brother turned into a mission to send water filters and food. The emotion on that person’s face when I shared the good news was incredibly inspiring. That urgency to make a difference has become another powerful motivation for me. But another force has always been there, quietly shaping my journey: my love for the industry. Since I was 18, I’ve been obsessed with the tire industry—the people, the camaraderie, the evolution over time. This passion has carried me through ups and downs. Last year, that love was rekindled like never before. There’s something uniquely fulfilling about not just growing a company but building in an industry you genuinely love. I want to grow this business to be the best and the biggest in the space, setting a new standard for what’s possible. And beyond the industry, I’ve realized: I love the journey itself. The late nights, the wins, the failures that teach you everything—it’s all part of the ride. That’s where character builds and growth happens. So, why am I sharing this? 1️⃣ Your motivation will evolve. What starts you on the path isn’t necessarily what keeps you going. Find the deeper “why.” 2️⃣ Financial gain can’t be the only driver. Once you’ve “made it,” you need something more—a purpose, a passion, or a love for building. 3️⃣ Fall in love with the journey. The ups, downs, and grind make the destination worth it. 4️⃣ Passion for your industry matters. Loving the work makes even the hardest days feel worthwhile. So, what drives you?

This story hits too close to home for me not to share some thoughts. 12 years ago, I was working through my exit from my startup, Floragenex, Inc. Like a good domestique in the Tour de France, I had given my best effort for as long as possible. It was time to sit up, drop out the back of the peloton, and recharge. The startup had been my life for six years, and my life was changing. To all who may have recently decided to step away from a company they have founded, here are my lessons from my ‘post-founder’ life. 1– Take pride in what you have built and accomplished. Yes, you’ve left, moved on, and maybe you even think you’ve ‘quit.’ Don’t let this be a negative mark on your life. You succeeded if you inspired people, gathered resources, built a team, and created economic activity. Be proud of your success, embrace your failures, and apply your lessons learned. 2 - Only fellow founders will understand what you've been through. There are many IYKYK moments to be shared with other entrepreneurs you'll meet along the way. You now know what you didn’t know when you started. Others will recognize the value in your experiences. 3 - Enjoy the "... higher pay, better quality of life, and less stress." You've been running at a higher clock speed than 95% of people for a long time. Give yourself a break. You won't need to worry about payroll, employees, board meetings, or investors. Savor freedom and use the time to better yourself through education, physical and mental well-being, and family. Max out your 401k, enjoy a paid vacation (and holidays), and enjoy the solace of a 40(ish)-hour work week. You no longer need to be there first and leave last. 4 – You will want to start something again. But now you’ll be more selective about your opportunities, more diligent with your planning, and more prepared for the journey. You know what you’re getting into, making the process easier. Knowing what you know, the threshold for starting will be higher. 5 – Give back. Engage with your community of entrepreneurs. You will see wide-eyed first-time founders and know what they are going through. Empathy makes your advice and counsel infinitely more valuable. But also let others learn from their own mistakes. You can’t teach someone to fish if you do it for them. Be the coach, not the substitute founder. The next chapters in your life will be amazing. Family, friends, and colleagues all know how hard you’ve worked. Now, enjoy the wiser, calmer, and focused person that you are choosing to be.

Mentorship is a two-way street. Supporting Jack has taught me as much as it’s helped him grow. This young man is destined for greatness—mark my words. But let me ask you this: what does success truly mean? Someone once told me, "If you live your life ensuring someone else’s is okay, your own life will always be okay." That wisdom stuck with me. To me, success isn’t just about personal achievements; it’s about creating a ripple effect—helping others grow and, in turn, growing yourself. Bringing Jack on board hasn’t just been about teaching him; it’s reminded me of the value of small, consistent efforts. It’s the basics that often create the biggest shifts. One of the first lessons I shared with Jack was the importance of eye contact and a firm handshake—those seemingly small actions that leave a lasting impression. From there, we’ve focused on habits that build character and momentum: reading daily, journaling, and embracing the power of 1% improvements. These aren’t just tasks; they’re foundational to creating massive change over time. It’s been incredible to see how these principles are already shaping Jack’s approach to life and work. In a world often overshadowed by negativity, why not choose kindness? Why not strive to make an impact, knowing it can create a chain reaction of positivity and growth? Jack’s enthusiasm and willingness to learn have inspired fresh ideas within my team, and he’s a living example of why investing in people is so worthwhile. Jack, keep your mind open, your work ethic relentless, and your heart kind. Most importantly, embrace failure—it’s a stepping stone to the greatest lessons. Fail fast, learn faster, and never stop growing. I’m incredibly proud to have you on this journey, and I can’t wait to see what we’ll achieve together. Success isn’t just about the destination; it’s about the journey—and the people you bring along for the ride. And together, we’re proving that lifting others up is one of the truest measures of success.
18 Year Old Entrepreneur | Building a Property Portfolio | Growing Simul Place & Sugar Sugar Events & RTM.
From Early Hustles to Ambitious Goals: My Journey So Far Hi everyone, I’m Jack Chesworth, an 18 year old entrepreneur from Worcester Park, South London. I’m on a relentless journey to achieve time, location, and financial freedom, and I’d like to share a bit about how it all began and where it’s heading. My first venture started in Year 11 with a marketing agency I co-founded with a friend. We didn’t turn it into a million-pound success, but the lessons I learned were invaluable. The thrill of building something from scratch and putting myself out there sparked a fire in me that still burns today. Failure wasn’t a setback it was my first real teacher. After that, I started a small business connecting estate agents with construction companies for maintenance jobs. Cold calling agents and negotiating deals taught me the art of persistence and communication. However, I got sidetracked, trading my vision for freedom with 6 a.m. starts in a van and long days on site. It was a humbling experience that taught me a valuable lesson: stay aligned with your goals and don’t lose sight of the bigger picture. During this time, I joined David Lloyd gym, which became more than just a fitness spot—it became a place to network and exchange ideas. That’s where I met Jayden, Jayden Hutchings an entrepreneur and visionary behind Simul Place, a private members workspace and weekend bar/private event venue. Despite being just 18, my drive, energy, and fresh perspective stood out to Jayden. He saw value in collaborating with someone who could bring bold ideas, creativity, and a hunger to learn. It’s a privilege to work alongside him, and I’m proud to be part of his mission to grow Simul Place into new locations. Together, we’re also working to take Sugar Sugar Events, including Wimbledon Summer Sessions, to new heights, breaking records in ticket sales and charity fundraising. What’s most exciting is a new venture we’re starting, a resource platform to share raw insights into entrepreneurship, the challenges faced, and how young business minds can grow through failure and perseverance. For me, this is just the beginning. My ultimate dream is to step into the world of property development, but for now, I’m focused on taking each opportunity as it comes, learning, and compounding my daily habits to build the life I envision. If you’re a fellow entrepreneur, dreamer, or someone passionate about growth, let’s connect. I’d love to share ideas, collaborate, and learn from your journey too! #Entrepreneurship #Networking #YoungEntrepreneurs #BusinessGrowth

Ever fantasized about seeing the world while doing what you love soly through entrepreneurship without a job? 🤩 I get it, it's a dream I hear a lot, especially from fellow entrepreneurs. Sounds pretty awesome, right? 😎 Building a business is a wild ride, no doubt. Don't believe the social media gurus & software engineers who joined established companies later on and preach about work life balance... 😂 In the beginning, it's all about finding that sweet spot between your big dreams, taking practical steps, moving the needle forward and keeping your relationships strong, because you will work when others go out and party all the time and hitting up conferences and all that other time consuming stuff, it will be though at the start but is essential for gaining momentum. ☺️ You need to be in it to win it if you have big dreams. 😂 If you want to build something truly unique, you gotta push those boundaries and embrace the unknown and be fearless. But remember, creating a fast growing tech startup is a whole different ballgame than starting something local like a bakery or podcast we're there is existing demand for your product. That's we're the whole solving a problem as a entrepreneur comes in. 😅 Each path needs different skills and know how. Don't be shy about looking for grants or pitching your ideas to investors, they're there to help! 🚀 Hitting that $1 million revenue mark? That's when things get interesting in my opinion. You can start handing off tasks and enjoying a bit more freedom. But until then, it's all about putting in the work and staying focused on your dreams. 😌 But let's be real, those early days? It's pure hustle. 😌 No magic tricks, magic bullet, just a whole lot of passion and self believe while things can also be a bit isolating... 😜 Building from scratch takes time, especially when you're figuring out funding and dealing with red tape. It's not always smooth sailing, but those setbacks? They teach you a ton about yourself. And every small win is worth celebrating! 🍀 One thing to keep in mind: funding often sets the pace. You can't jump to Series A funding without meeting the requirements. Start with pre-seed funding, accelerators, grants, or even bootstrapping for small dreams. If you've got big dreams, consider a corporate structure from the get-go and sometimes this is even a requirement. It's great to dream big, but success often comes from a combination of vision, hard work, and a strategic approach to overcoming challenges and it comes with a price that you can not easily calculate before you start. This price is not always monetary. It can include personal sacrifices, sleepless nights, strained relationships, and missed opportunities. Be patient, but stay focused on your goals. 😎 #entrepreneurlife #travelgoals #sidehustle #digitalnomad #workfromanywhere #lifelonglearner #communityovercompetition #neverstopdreaming #letsdothis #Entrepreneur #Tech #SoftwareEngineer

Today marks 8 years since the #entrepreneurship bug bit me 🎉 I've been doing strategy work as a consultant, advisor, author, facilitator and author. And it has been a fulfilling and rewarding journey that I don't intend to quit. The journey had it's own challenges. In summing up my journey; 1. I survived the notorious first 3 years in business that kills a lot of startups. 2. I choked on imposter syndrome and shed it off as a trusted no-ndegreed kickass business strategist during those early days. 3. Suffocated on month-end anxiety of having bills to pay and no money in the bank. 4. Enjoyed the experience of having my small business paying for my apartment, office and sponsoring my lifestyle. 5. Made a lot mistakes, and costly ones. 6. Enjoyed to the fullest extent what it means to 'do what you love everyday' 7. Broke the passion ceiling and balanced it with rationality. 8. Seen decent processed invoices. 9. Questioned my path and felt alone for the greater part of the journey. 10. Did a lot of stuff I've always wanted to do. 11. Realized that every penny I've ever had, and anything I've ever owner was bought (directly or indirectly) by the money I made because of the terrifying decision the 21 year old me made. 12. Cruising into the working class mode as a self-employed. (Maybe when I hit 10 years into this game I'll lay it all out for you, in the meantime you can just get my book on how to do it. DM me if you'd like to purchase my book). 13. I'm still recommending entrepreneurship as a long-term solution to youth unemployment. 14. I still think entrepreneurship is way too romanticised, reality is entrepreneurship is hard. It is one of the irrational pursuit that the very few get to stick out. 15. Otherwise, I find myself to be privileged to have been bitten by the entrepreneurship bug in my early years, that built my risk tolerance. 16. I continue to be the Startups whisperer, the people's Business Strategist of choice. 17. I'm grateful to each and everyone of you who interacted with me and my work, and even you silent pluggers. I am because you are. 18. I can't stop typing, my heart is smiling. 19. Since I can't stop typing, please remember this: Thoughts become things, continue pursuing your ideas. And remember, 20. You can do the hard things. ❤️ #strategy #kgadionstrategy #entrepreneur #smallbusinessowners

"There’s a bunch of startup content about the power of high conviction and determination as a startup founder. Sam Altman, Paul Graham, Dalton Caldwell, and Michael Seibel, among others, have detailed how conviction and determination are the notable traits of many of the successful founders they’ve been around. Founders who have made objectively irrational decisions to continue working on their businesses. But what about when it doesn’t work? Some entrepreneurs have the same high conviction as the massive successes but have dramatically worse financial outcomes. There are real economic consequences and opportunity costs associated with starting a business. The consequences are more severe in a world where you operate with limited resources, like many diverse founders. You can come out of years of work empty-handed when you could have used your skills to work a high-paying job. Even worse, personal and family savings could be deeply depleted. Your high conviction could later be linked to tension and trauma for others. Starting a business can create great wealth, but the reasons to pursue an idea are broader than just the economic outcomes. You may have started your company because you wanted to impact a specific set of users. You love your users and believe that your product could help them win. You feel excited about serving your users, even at a small scale. You love the people that you interact with daily. These are legitimate reasons to keep going, even when it may be objectively irrational. It drives your conviction. You may not have found product-market fit, but you’ve stumbled upon founder-market fit. Life isn’t about success being guaranteed; it’s about doing hard things that seem like a great use of your gifts..."
