Such a memorable evening filled with honesty, pragmatism and curiosity! An absolutely fantastic experience for Kimmy Paulino and I at Sustainability Women to work together with Anne Langourieux Rachel Chiam from The Matcha Initiative and Teri at Singapore Global Network to curate and carry out this event where we all “Dare(d) to Dream” to envision Singapore 2040 towards a thriving sustainable future. It truly was team work. Collective intelligence of the passionate attendees on topics ranging from Education, Mobility & Transportation, Food Security, to Build & Natural Environment, Alternative Business Models and discussing action areas on how to get there by dawning the role of the individual, public, private sector and academia. Shout out to all our exceptional facilitators who helped navigate the group discussion! An honour to hear real-life examples from our diverse panel: Rachel Cheang: Promote community ownership and agency, ecosystems need strong communities and to look inward to generate a conversation about what type of returns our investments and capital should be making and for whom Lim Lecarl: Taking us through the nuanced concept of “post-growth”, and sparking questions around how to have a steady-state economy that is in harmony with nature Mayur Singh: The Green Collective SG Pte Lt (a certified B-Corp) model’s focus on curating, building and scaling sustainable brands; and how the “trust” quotient is such a critical lever in operating businesses Frantz Braha: SaladStop Group’s efforts of leading the way from a responsible value chain, to product traceability, carbon and impact measurement Barney Swan: Our moderator for the evening and sharing about the exceptional work at ClimateForce leveraging regenerative agro-forestry and innovative solutioning accelerating nat cap, climate tech opportunities and science ed; posing the difficult question around galvanising and tapping the funding channels / instruments The discussions resonated with one of the key themes during the ongoing Ecosperity Week on how saving nature is key - supply chains depend on nature and investors are gradually moving the needle and carrying out nature-friendly investing. Here’s to keeping the momentum going!
🙏A BIG THANK YOU🙏 to everyone who came and participated at The Matcha Initiative's event last night, ‘Singapore 2040: A Thriving Sustainable Future’! The evening was a big success - filled with insights into the different perspectives regarding how sustainable growth in Singapore will look in 2040, for different stakeholders ranging from individuals & communities, to public sector and academia. 🥳 The evening would not have been possible without the support from SaladStop Group Group, who provided our guests with a delicious array of sustainable and meatless refreshments, and provided explanations of how the night’s food and beverage options were sustainable and better for the planet. 🌱 We’re also extremely appreciative of The Great Room for hosting us at their venue at Afro Asia! The venue provided the perfect ambience and the hospitality of Hara and team was unmatched, accommodating over 80 people who were eager to learn about how the sustainability transition will affect Singapore’s growth. 🙌 Thank you to our esteemed speakers and moderator, who took the time out of their busy schedules to share their insights and experiences with our audience. Their unique backgrounds provided interesting and thought provoking insights, and provided ideas and takeaways for participants to incorporate into their own professional lives. Barney Swan Frantz Braha Mayur Singh Rachel Cheang Lim Lecarl 👏 A big shout out to our facilitators who had the task of guiding participants through their discussions on how sustainability would affect growth in Singapore by 2040. Participants were told to ‘dare to dream’, and envision a Singapore they wanted to see in 2040, and discussed how Singapore could reach that future - What processes and actions need to be avoided, shifted from and towards, and accelerated. 🌿 Betreat Swisstainable Commitments 🌍 Betreat is rooted in 3 core measures: 1️⃣ To offer events that contribute to the well-being of participants and allow them to connect with nature. 2️⃣ Our aim is to set up "Zero Waste" events. 3️⃣ Create events with positive impacts on the environment and local communities. To achieve each goal, we've outlined 3 or 4 steps for each category. Here's an example regarding our commitment to nature and landscape: 🏞️ Promote destinations in Switzerland for our events (Flims, Geneva, Zurich, Rapperswil, Zug, Sursee, and others…). 🚴♂️ Promote activities in harmony with nature (bike rides, archery, reforestation actions, "Clean-Up" actions). 🧘♀️ Promote activities that contribute to the well-being of participants (yoga, meditation, "healthy & dietetic" cooking classes…). Betreat stands by the values of well-being and regenerative practices, creating a more sustainable event world with each endeavor. Sustainability remains a challenge, but when you're committed, it's the most beautiful and fulfilling sentiment ever. 🌱 #SustainableEvents #SwissNature Swisstainable – Schweizer Nachhaltigkeitsprogramm - Swiss Sustainability Programme #WeAreSwisstainable

Visiting SX Sustainability Expo 2024 in Bangkok today, giving a glimpse in the efforts by companies on the sustainability front. Also enjoyed the food festival downstairs, with local sustainable food solutions. My take on the event; which seemed less busy than last years… 👍 great to see such events that drive consumer awareness around the sustainability topic. Companies also engage and get involved, thus slowly moving the needle…. 👎 Sadly still more talk than action. Most products and solutions are still the usual, with (hopefullly) some efforts behind the scenes to make them more sustainable. Really comprehensive and E2E solutions were missing in my view, I did not see them atleast. In short; it’s a journey, and Thailand still has some ground to cover to really build sustainability in its systems, but it’s a first step in the right direction. Keep it going Thailand 🇹🇭, and start with more stricter rules and regulations, as well as awareness programs, to get consumers to join on the journey. #sustainability #thailand #futurefood

🎈 Let's talk sustainability. The word "sustainable" is added willy-nilly to all sorts of things, and I always wonder if they actually did something about it. Meghna Nijhawan kindly asked me about my thoughts on sustainability in one of my posts this week, and in mysterious ways, on the same day, Maria Forko asked me to connect with her on LinkedIn. And guess what? She is an expert in helping event planners organize sustainable events, mainly in Austria and Germany, but she can work with anyone in the EU. More info about her company White Elephant Events. Here are the short highlights of our conversation: 📄 to get the Eco Label (which can be granted to anyone in the EU), companies need to check quite a few things off a 15-sided PDF-long list. This is serious business. 💰 To become sustainable is initially more expensive but cheaper for companies in the long run. 🔧 There are no fixed templates to follow, so her work is personalized. 💡 One step that has a massive, tangible effect on sustainability and is easier to implement is catering with vegan or vegetarian locally sourced food and ingredients. This simple change can make a significant difference. 🗣 Honest conversations are not just a step but the first crucial step. Admitting what can be done and what can't be done at this moment is important. It's a responsibility we all share. 🇩🇰 Denmark and other Scandinavian countries have their eco-label organization: Nordic Swan Ecolabel. 🌱 We have a long way to go, but seeds are planted. 📸 at @zoku before the networking event this week. #eventplanner #sustainability #ecolabel #denmark

A beautifully busy start to the week with Southeast Asia’s biggest sustainability event for the travel and hospitality. ☘ 🛌 Thank you to the Phuket Hotels Association for leading the charge towards a more sustainable future in our industry! It was incredible to hear from industry leaders and to be surrounded by so many passionate individuals committed to driving the green agenda forward. This event reminded me that sustainability isn’t just a trend but a way of life. It’s about the choices we make every day, whether it’s being mindful of the food we waste or the words we use when speaking to our colleagues, friends, and family. Living a conscious and intentional life means recognizing the impact of our actions on the world around us and striving to make better choices that benefit both people and the planet. As nature grows, we should grow alongside it, responding to its changes with our own. Mutual growth, adapting together— a symbiotic relationship. Let’s remember that we are deeply interconnected with everything around us. 💞 #Sustainability #ConsciousLiving #HospitalityIndustry #GreenTravel #MindfulLiving #PHIST2024

Let me share some takeaways from my dialogue with John T. today at AlterCOP in Singapore about driving sustainability changes in hospitality industry. ✍ Systemic changes only happen through #collaboration. That is why Accor takes collaborative action with institutions, governments, peers, startups, NGOs. Hospitality players are competitors but also partners in changing hospitality industry towards sustainable business models. This is #coopetition (cooperation + competition) ✍ One size fits does not work. When adressing 5000+ hotels across multiple geographies, sizes, brands... solutions to reduce energy, carbon, water & resources needs to be #tailored. ✍ Engaging #franchises is a key challenge. Showing how sustainability brings business & asset value, sharing best practices from flagships, tailoring solutions depending on the type of hotel owner, these are part of the key success factors. ✍ #Technology is a key enabler. Smart energy, smart waste, smart water, smart buildings... data, AI & digital are everywhere to support sustainable transformation. A warmful thanks again to you John T. for sharing your insightful experience as VP sustainability in MEAPAC region, and to #Altercop29 for making this event possible.
