Could the no and low movement save the wine industry? Wine Industry Network investigates and discusses 'Embracing the Future: Unlocking Opportunities with Low and No Alcohol Wines'... "The resistance among hardcore oenophiles to the rise of low and no alcohol wines was completely understandable … at first. But at this point, it’s clear that what seemed like it could be a trend, has become a way of life for many people across the country — even those who love to enjoy a glass, or occasionally three, of fully alcoholic wine." Do you agree there is the opportunity for growth in the wine industry? Does it need saving? Do you have any favourite non-alcoholic wine or wine alternative brands? https://lnkd.in/gxAwUh_B

To support its growth, the wine industry is investing in new technologies for both wine making and selling processes. Wine certification and quality assessment are key elements within this context. Certification prevents the illegal adulteration of wines (to safeguard human health) and assures quality for the wine market. Quality evaluation is often part of the certification process and can be used to improve wine making (by identifying the most influential factors) and to stratify wines such as premium brands (useful for setting prices). It's ironic that the trends of non-alcoholic wines and low-intervention wines are happening simultaneously and often being supported by the same consumers. Non-alcoholic wines are some of the most highly manipulated wines on the market. To create a non-alcoholic wine with flavors approaching what consumers expect, you need to make wine and then use a process like reverse osmosis to remove the alcohol. Has anyone in sales heard any consumer thoughts on this? Or is there a complete disconnect?

“ Aproduct that no one wants is expensive even if given away for free” Lorenzo Biscontin Absolutely! By crafting compelling narratives and engaging storytelling, we can reignite interest and passion for wine among consumers. But who should take the lead ? Here is another contribution of one of our prominent readers: Lorenzo Biscontin, consultant, author and founder of Vinophila Wine Expo asks “Why should people drink #wine?” Letting aside the ethical implications of promoting the #consumption of any alcoholic beverage, finding the right answer can be the response to the structural oversupply situation mentioned by Robert Joseph in his article about the need to uproot 15% of the world’s vineyards. https://lnkd.in/esQvTWqk #WineConsumption #WineBusiness #WineIndustry Wine in Moderation (WiM) Association Also take a look at the contributions from Ben Bentzin (https://lnkd.in/eWqygAYT) and Rod Phillips (https://lnkd.in/eiXszE9N). "Last year, the Tories added another dimension: pegging duty to alcoholic strength [rather than a flat fee per bottle]. In wine that’s already had the effect of increasing the number of wines coming in below the 11.5% threshold..." https://lnkd.in/dw6ThC3A AR: The wine industry complained last year it will lose money under the new system with some saying there are no good low alcohol wines. Alcohol Review, however, suggested that some wine businesses would succeed in profiting from the new system. https://lnkd.in/dp4YzVdh It appears the adaptation is well underway.

💡 - "Understanding how traditional premium wines and new wine-based beverages can coexist under one regulatory framework is essential for the wine industry’s future." 💡 - "Based on the current analysis of the wine sector, three key strategies can be pursued. The advantage is that these strategies are complementary and can be implemented together, depending on the grower, company, region, or country involved. These strategies are: 1 ▶ Fostering traditional consumption of more traditional wines. 2 ▶ Enhancing and promoting new types of wines and their communication to appeal to new consumers. 3 ▶ Reinventing the wine product to attract consumers who are further removed from traditional wines." 👏 Thank you for this research publication! - Simone Loose Rafael del Rey https://lnkd.in/ewftiXAA Hochschule Geisenheim University Meininger's International WEINWIRTSCHAFT Deutsches Weininstitut, The German Wine Institute i.e. Wines of Germany worldwide Deutscher Raiffeisenverband e.V. I love REAL they have become one of my few go-to options for taking to friends' houses. The liquids are really good. The key is that they are not masquerading as wines.
