Recently, UniSuper experienced this situation for two weeks when Google Cloud inadvertently deleted all of UniSuper's #cloud infrastructure, which UniSuper was dependent on to operate its $140 billion #superannuation portfolio for its 647,000 members. Visibility is key: Strengthening security with Sysdig As digital operations expand, the financial industry is facing heightened regulatory and security demands. With the European Union’s Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA) set to take effect in January 2025, financial organizations must now comply with additional rigorous standards for operational resilience and cybersecurity. DORA’s mandates require financial entities — from banks to asset managers — to detect and disclose incidents rapidly, with a four-hour window for reporting major breaches. Moreover, DORA extends oversight to third-party providers, including cloud services, and calls for multicloud strategies, which can further complicate visibility and security management. Demand for Cloud Backup Services is Growing in Russia Dmitry Denshchikov, head of the cloud services division at Telecom birzha, told Forbes about the business interest in enhanced encryption. In the conversation, he emphasized that there is currently a demand for Disaster Recovery (DR) services and for storing archives and backups at sites different from the primary ones where the client’s main infrastructure is located. Dmitry Denshchikov assesses the growth in demand as “twofold.” In his opinion, the reason lies not only in high-profile public incidents but also in the changing strategies of cybercriminals. “A few years ago, data was encrypted with the aim of ransom (let’s recall 2016–2017 and the Petya virus). If the victim of the attack paid the requested amount, they received a decryption tool. However, now the goal of hackers, who are usually politically motivated, is to destroy the victim’s infrastructure, and in the overwhelming majority of cases, there will be no ransom. The choice is not between ‘profitable-unprofitable,’ but whether the company will continue to operate or cease its activities,” said the head of the cloud services division to the publication.
