Encouraging to see Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TEVETA) and International Labor Organization addressing the challenge of farm management in Malawi. See https://shorturl.at/zJ2OE. Indeed, this is a prevalent and significant challenge to sustainable agriculture commercialization in Africa as we highlighted in our recent article which I have reposted below in case you missed it. Training is an important first step but at SANEWOPA, we believe the challenge goes far beyond training. There is need to develop farm management tools and systems that can be tailored to the African context in terms of scale and operational structures. Also, it is important to keep in mind that farm management entails a wide variety of discrete thematic capacities from production management to financial management, marketing and personnel management, among other competencies. It is impossible for one person to excel at all aspects of farm management. It may work better to train individuals in specialized roles within the spectrum of farm management capacities. We also have lots of college graduates who have been trained in farm management but they are not practicing due to a lack of opportunities, poor remuneration and substandard working conditions. Educating commercially oriented farmers on the value and mechanisms for engaging qualified farm managers is key.
For the last two years, I embarked on a journey to establish the Sustainable Agripreneurship Network for Working Professionals in Africa (SANEWOPA) as an organization that promotes sustainable farming among the rising crop of weekend farmers in Africa. The plan was to pilot SANEWOPA in Malawi, see what we learn and then come up with a strategy for expanding the work to other parts of the continent. It was an ambitious initiative and the journey has not been easy but we have achieved our goal of gathering important lessons on the challenges and opportunities for advancing sustainability and inclusion of weekend farmers in agriculture development in Africa. In the coming weeks, I will be sharing what we have learned as a team and also what I have learned personally as the founder. Here is the first article reflecting on the journey: https://lnkd.in/edh3Gd6u #sustainablefarming #agriculturedevelopment #weekendfarmers

There are high prospects for the future of sustainable agriculture in Africa and NjordFrey is taking the lead in Rwanda by offering aquaponics solutions for smallholder farmers.
Last week, we were thrilled to welcome Cultivating New Frontiers in Agriculture (CNFA) (HingaWunguke's Team) to our farm in Kayonza, Rwanda! 🌱 Happy to participate in Hinga Wunguke's assessment of potential partners to increase incomes and improve nutrition by enhancing agricultural productivity and strengthening markets for high-value and nutritious products in Rwanda. Our field team guided the visitors on a facility tour, explained our MVP, and demonstrated our aquaponics system that operates with cutting-edge monitoring technology. We showcased these transformative farming solutions impacting agriculture in Rwanda. We continue to work towards sustainable growth, increased resilience to climate change, and enhanced food security and nutrition outcomes for Rwandans. Together, let's contribute to #SDG8 - Decent Work and Economic Growth, #SDG10 - Reduced Inequalities, #SDG12 - Responsible Consumption and Production, and #SDG17 - Partnerships for the Goals! #PartnershipOpportunity #AgriculturalInnovation #SustainableGrowth #MadeInRwanda and #FoodSecurity #NjordFrey #SustainableAgriculture #SustainableFarming #Rwanda #Aquaponics #Smallholderfarmers #GrowingGreen #SustainableHarvest #AgriculturalInnovation #HealthyHarvest #GreenTech

🌽 How we produce food needs to evolve. Today’s farmers need more sustainable ways of growing their crops based on technologies that maximize food production, cut emissions and help to regenerate nature. Biological seed treatment is at the forefront of this shift. Our team in AME will be on the ground in Mombasa, Kenya, for the AFSTA Congress 2024 where biological seed treatment will feature heavily in the agenda. Meet our experts, including Guido Ramirez Caceres, Global Biologicals Business Development, who will take to the stage to talk about emerging seed technologies that address the constraints of agriculture in Africa. Come and meet us to learn more about our soil health initiative, and what we’re doing to pave the way for optimum seed coating application, protect against fake seeds and increase biological seed treatment innovations. #seedcare #biologicals #innovation #agriculture #BiologicalsSeedTreatment

Exciting News. Did you know that farmers grow 95% of their food in the uppermost layer of soil, called "Topsoil"? Yet this Topsoil is globally endangered. In the last 150 years, nearly half of the most productive part of the soil has disappeared due to unsustainable farm practices. How do we produce food without healthy soil? At Wandusoa, we are tackling this issue head-on. We are a team of dedicated regenerative farmers working with youths on the margins of society by equipping them with adequate knowledge and skills in regenerative agriculture so that they become stewards of our planet. With your support, we can train and equip marginalized youth with regenerative agricultural/business skills and knowledge to become stewards of our planet. Imagine the difference we could make together! Please, see what we are doing to ensure food security in Cameroon in our blog post here: https://lnkd.in/dH98usSK Thanks for reading and sharing our blogpost. #Paulkronenberg, #tanjaLauper, #VaidaOndongo, #ChackoJacob, #RiyaOrison, #BasKunen, #Akhin, #RoddenberryFoundation, #EarthRisingFoundation, #kanthari, #KanthariFoundationSwitzerland, #DovetailImpactFoundation, #ThePollinationProjectFoundation, #ThiagoSilva, #LauraStorm, #HeideMaria, #Omprakash, #Synetium,
